The county reports a long-awaited rain event in McCulloch County as Jupiter Pluvius delivers a "Million Dollar" rainfall rise raising creek levels and easing drought concerns after weeks of dry weather.
Brady to let a 4 mile Brady Voca segment of FM 734 for construction soon as right of way fencing proceeds. Project aims to straighten the route linking Brady to US 87 and tie into FM 834 with future sections planned next year while rainfall totals from the wet spell influence fields and harvest timing.
Zone One voters in San Saba Brady Soil Conservation District meet at Voca school at 7 50 p m Tuesday Oct 6 to elect a supervisor. Landowners 21 and older and their wives in the southern McCulloch County zone may vote. R W Bill Jordan currently serves as Zone One supervisor.
Bob Weddle reports Eden and Brady quarrel over a proposed dam to supply recreation water and flood control on Brady Creek. The dispute centers on who owns Brady Creek water and possible inundation of the Santa Fe Railroad track. Brady rejects joining a San Saba River dam plan, warning of regional stakes.
A weak hog market last week limited sales at the Saturday feeder pig sale hosted by the McCulloch County Livestock Association at Heart O Texas Commission Company. President Frank Corder said buyers were scarce while about 340 pigs were offered and roughly 140 were sold. Johnson supervised the sale with assistance from R. Jordan E. L. Ross Jimmy Casenbary and Sam McAnally.
Brady and No 1 Texas Class AA Stamford meet at Bulldog Stadium in a crucial matchup. Brady coach Chuck York calls Stamford one of the top six teams in the state, noting their tough defense and past losses to the Bulldogs. Stamford has defeated AAA foes recently and holds a strong all around record.
Patricia Gleaton, a senior majorette, was chosen this week as foot ball sweetheart of the Brady Bulldogs. She will be presented Friday night at the Brady Stamford game while the team prepares for a tough matchup with Cotta.
The Brady Chamber of Commerce seeks an urgent estimate of local women aged 18 to 40 available for work. Roger Wheeler says data will aid industrial prospects and future skilled labor training, with questionnaires to be returned to Box 749 Brady. Local merchants support the effort to expand industrial opportunities.
Mrs. Lockett Bryson of Rochelle High School chairs McCulloch County for the Make It Yourself With Wool contest. Open to girls 14 to 22, the event offers 45000 in prizes, with grand winners to receive a trip to Europe.
St Patrick’s Catholic Church members report near completion of plans for the Fall Festival on Oct 17 at the National Guard Armory. Committee chairs include Moran tickets, Tatsch and Schwertner tea and coffee, Priess tables and silver, Newlin Broad doll wheel, Baker cake walk, Rice sisters, doll raffle by Thomp son sisters, Anderson and Schwenker couples host, Miller barbecue, Pellizzari ring toss, with Alfred Schwertner general chair for men and Miller and Gober for women.
Rain halted Brady Junior High football game with Lampasas after half of the seventh grade contest. Lampasas had just scored and the teams paused. Brady Lions next play at San Saba next Tuesday.
William J. Harding, director of public relations for the Texas Insurance Advisory Association, will speak in Brady on Tuesday October 6. He will address Brady High School assembly at 10 30 a m and the Brady Rotary Club at noon after the club luncheon at Trinity Methodist Church. He will discuss fire safety under the title Lets Have a Fire Cide Chat.
Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Weaver and their daughters of San Angelo visited San Angelo area over the weekend and stayed with Mrs. Lona Miller.
A. J. Lacy of Southwestern States Telephone announces ongoing Brady cable project. About 28,000 feet of new cable in 51 to 606 pair sizes will be installed with new poles and open wire circuits at an approximate cost of 50,000 dollars. Improved facilities aim to serve current users and attract new business.
The Agriculture Committee of the Chamber of Commerce organizes a County Fair at the National Guard Armory with women’s projects antiques and business displays. Coinciding with a Quarter Horse Show at Jubilee Grandstand, sponsors include McCulloch County Livestock Association.
