McCulloch County reports total valuations of 11,438,445 in the just completed tax roll led by Tax Assessor-Collector John Guice. The 1959 figures trend upward from the 1950s downturn and are near the 30 year high, with expected tax receipts of 121,250 for the county, 36,446 for the state, and 26,033 for the County Special Fund.
Brady High Future Farmers of America started the year with its first meeting Tuesday night. Elected officers include John Latham president Jerry Dunn vice president Robert Ricks secretary Billy Ross Cavin treasurer Virgil Moore reporter Jerry Bratton sentinel Knox Trammell parliamentarian and Tom Halli historian. Dues set at $1.25 with meetings at 8 p m every other Tuesday.
Pioneer Natural Gas Company agrees to supply information to aid Brady's City Council in evaluating a proposed 19.1 percent rate increase. Brady officials led by Alder man R. M. Priesmeyer and James Feazelle traveled to Amarillo to meet with C. S. Wall, pledging cooperation to furnish any additional data.
The Pecan Valley Water and Sewage Association held its regular monthly meeting at the Brady Country Club. About 16 area towns were represented by city officials and water and sewer department staff. Tillman Smithey of Abilene, engineer for Portland Cement Co, spoke on proper mixtures and practices for good concrete construction with color slides and films. The group rotates meetings, Brady hosting about once a year. Brady City Supt. James Feazelle is president, W. H. Holloway of Brownwood vice president, and Bert Chapman of Early secretary treasurer.
Paul Klatt of Brady underwent major surgery Monday at Methodist Hospital in Houston. He stood the operation well and is expected to recuperate. His friends may address him at Methodist Hospital Room 835 Medical Center Houston Tex. Misses Mabel and Johnnie Thompson were with their sister Mrs Klatt during the operation and returned to Brady.

The Rev. J. Ivey Miller will be guest speaker at a Sunday evening service September 20 at First Baptist Church San Antonio. The 7:45 p.m. service theme is Christian Education. Miller, a former South America missionary, has led Texas churches and served as district missions secretary for District 15 of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He is currently assistant administrator of the Mexican Baptist Children's Home in San Antonio.

Members of the McCulloch County Livestock Association will meet Tuesday night to elect directors and finish organizing the new group. The 7:45 p.m. meeting at the National Guard Armory will nominate 24 candidates for directors, with 12 elected. Dues are $5 annually and 75 memberships are paid. The group plans a feeder pig sale at Heart O' Texas Commission Co. on Sept. 26 and has bought materials to build a roping arena for a November 7 Quarter horse show, with bucking chutes added later for possible rodeo events. Refreshments will be served.
Brady City Council endorsed a resolution backing toll free direct-dial to six McCulloch County rural exchanges Melvin Voca Lohn Doole Rochelle Mercury and to Brady. Mason County already has direct dialing to Streeter Katemney and Fredonia. Negotiations target Southwestern States Telephone Co-op and Central Texas Telephone Co-op for the system.
The Texas Railroad Commission designated the Charlie Miller place at Fife as the Lojon gas field in McCulloch County. The Low Drilling Co and BE C Johnston completed the well August 4, with an absolute open flow of 2,100,000 cubic feet daily from perforations between 1576 and 584 feet, located about 1 mile southwest of Pioneer Natural Gas wells at Waldrip and 344 miles northeast of recent W. W. Walker and L. S. Walker Strawn sand wells.
