Elizabeth McSwain Sworn In as County Probation Officer
Elizabeth McSwain was sworn in as McCulloch County Probation Officer by County Judge Hettie F. George. The appointment was made by District Judges A P Allison and William C Breedlove to replace her late husband R F McSwain. The county commissioners approved the appointment at their regular meeting. Minutes of the McCulloch County Development Board were read. the board supports county assistance after fundraising for the museum. The court set 1976 as Bicentennial and County Centennial year and approved the budget after no public hearing. Public Health officials discussed landfills and permits. the court will pursue solid waste help. The court directed bids for an old bridge removal, and set $40 per mental and alcoholic case processing fee to state hospitals with indigent exemptions. A new sheriff’s car was approved with bid advertisements planned.

Gordon Charleton of Columbian Securities Corporation of Texas met Brady Independent School District trustees to discuss a contingency financing plan for a potential bond election with no costs unless a bond election is called. Supt. Carroll Tatom noted 1975 enrollment at 1,514, up five drivers were added and ambulance service for football games will be shared by two funeral homes on an alternating basis.

Jack Williams 70 of Brady died about 9 p m Monday in Audie Murphy Veterans Hospital San Antonio after an illness. Funeral services were held Thursday at 2 p m in Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ray Ash conducting. Burial in Rest Haven Cemetery. Born July 3 1905 in Mason he was foreman of Cohen Ranch and a World War II veteran. A noted fiddler he played with the Buck Knox group at the Brady Chamber of Commerce banquet last April. Survived by wife Virginia Slaughter Smith four daughters Patsy Reiser Texi Lea Woodbury Virginia Houghton Darlene Britt a son Earl Smith two sisters Clara Walker Mary E Barnett 18 grandchildren three great grandchildren.

Brady Council approves 12 percent electric rate hike
The Brady City Council met in a special session to pass an emergency ordinance raising electric rates 12 percent across all categories. Mayor Norman S. Lawler cited budget overruns and a need to fund remaining eight months of the fiscal year as the reason, with May 1976 as the target.

Mr and Mrs David Youngblood and Daniel E Miller bought the M M Bradham Insurance business. The trio plans to serve Brady with all insurance needs and move from prior locations after marrying in 1969 and settling in Brady in 1970 and moving to Brady on August 20. The first Girls Booster Club meeting is set for 7 30 p m Monday in the Choral Room at Brady High. Three girls volleyball games with Ballinger are scheduled for Tuesday starting at 5 30 p m with freshman junior varsity and varsity.
