Brady Jaycees World Championship Barbecue Goat Cookoff Entries Grow
The Brady Jaycees expect 75 plus entries for the World Championship Barbecue Goat Cookoff at Richards Park this Saturday with cooks from Fort Worth Midland Odessa Pecos Houston San Antonio San Angelo Tyler and Waxahachie. Entry fee is 15, plates sell for 2 50 from 11 a.m. to 1 30 p.m. and again at supper. Ex Governor Preston Smith is mentioned as a figure in coverage.

Ex Mayor Lawler Dies in Wreck Near Brady
Ex mayor and Brady business leader Norman S. Lawler, 63, died in a two vehicle crash on U S Highway 283 seven miles north of Brady. Lawler, returning from Abilene, apparently fell asleep and collided with a Merchants Fast Freight semi driven by Tom Roland Stanford of Grand Prairie. Stanford was uninjured. Lawler died at the scene after more than 90 minutes of extrication. Funeral set for Friday at First United Methodist Church with burial at Rest Haven Cemetery. Lawler, born 1913, moved to Brady in 1934 and became a noted builder and housing developer in Abilene and Brady. Brady meets Ballinger in the 1977 season opener at Ballinger with Ira Routt to start at quarterback and Chris Jones viewed as a top West Texas running back. Ballinger, coming off an 0 8 2 season, returns 19 lettermen under coach Terry Brewster as polls rate Ballinger, Colorado City and Merkel for the District 6 AA title.

Jubilee Adds Five Directors and Plans at Track
Five new directors were elected to the Jubilee Association board. New directors are Randy Beakley, David Neal, Dennis Snodgrass, Richard Rickman and Dr. Richard Lane. The group approved capital improvements including $60,000 in new stalls, seats remodel, a new parking fee, and plans for a racing secretary office. Racing dates for next year were set, and a search committee was formed to replace the late Robert Strickland.
