Project to Pump Water by Oct for Two Texas Counties

A project aims to start pumping water by October 1 in western Tom Green County and the southern part of Runnels County. Water will be drawn from a 2,500 foot well drilled into the Hickory Land aquifer on the Robert Allen place, two miles east of Melvin.

Lohn School Enrollments Drop to 77 Students

Lohn School reports 77 students after Monday, down from 89 last year, with Rochelle starting Thursday. Superintendent Charles Brewster notes the opening went well despite an electricity outage that slightly disrupted reading figures. Brady Jaycees World Championship Goat Cookoff Draws Crowds

Brady Jaycees prepare for the fourth annual World Championship Goat Cookoff at Richards Park on Saturday September 3. About 25 to 30 goats will be barbecued for the public with take home orders, lunch from 11 to 1 30 and dinner from 5 until late. Winners’ barbecues will be auctioned, with contests and awards also planned. Local and out of town contestants arrive Friday night for setup and a get acquainted party. The County Fair livestock pavilion hosts Jaycee wives booths during the event.
