City names L. J. Patterson Brady secretary

The Brady City Council on Tuesday night appointed Mrs. L. J. Patterson as city secretary effective next Monday. She succeeds Mrs. Yvonne Shuffield who moves to Brownwood. Patterson and her husband have lived in Brady since 1958, previously from Midland. He works for Frank Corder's Exxon Distributor. Patterson has nine years with Corder, eight with Brady Municipal Gas, and two with the Department of Public Welfare. They have two children, a daughter and son-in-law Ross Johnson and their children Shanna and Lindsy in Rochelle, and a son Carl Patterson at Wilkerson Funeral Home Brady.

City and County Plan Joint Ambulance Meeting

City leaders agreed to a joint meeting with the County commissioners to discuss ambulance service. Current service is under a City-County contract with Wilkerson Funeral Home. Jerome Wilkerson urged a bid contract to meet Emergency Medical Service standards, requiring more equipment and training.

Heart of Texas Historical Museum Elects New Officers

Jim Griffin was elected to head a slate of officers for the Heart of Texas Historical Museum at a Aug. 29 directors meeting. New officers include Mrs. V. C. Whitworth vice president Mrs. Steve King secretary Mrs. R. F. McSwain treasurer and Mrs. John Jones corresponding secretary. The group plans an advisory committee and plaque program. Latimer to Mehring read a letter noting Phase I for the old McCulloch County Jail project with $39,500 total cost and $18,650 federal share. museum to cover remaining costs.

Race Meet in Honor of Strickland at Jubilee Four Day Event

The Jubilee’s final race meet dedicates to the memory of Robert Strickland with Les Roper as acting track manager. Four days run Saturday through Sunday with post times at 1 30 p m. Futurity purse about 9000, Classic about 5000, Derby about 4000. Saturday features Paint Horses, Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. Sunday focuses on Quarter Horse races. Finals Sept 17 for Futurity and Sept 18 for the other three major races.

Brady Ford dealer Curtis Norman dies at 82

Curtis Norman, a Brady Ford dealer for 55 years, died Wednesday night at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo. He was 82 and active in his business until illness. Funeral services are pending at Wilkerson Funeral Home. He came to Brady in 1922 from Paint Rock where he ran a Ford dealership for three years and then bought the Brady franchise from W. H. Hall. He operated the Brady dealership continuously since.

Bus Seats Slashed in Brady ISD Vehicle

Brady Police say a vandal damaged a new Brady ISD bus by slashing 12 seats causing about 200 dollars in damage. Officer Serub Taylor noted the break in occurred between 9am Monday and Tuesday morning with suspects to be questioned and no arrests yet.

Brady Flora Firm Reunites Steffens Line in Brady

Karlton Steffens returns to Brady to join his father K K Steffens in the family florist business. A 1965 Brady graduate, he lauds home life and plans to apply his management degree from A&M. He spent 50 years in Austin as a systems analyst before moving back to the Wood where his family has long run the shop.

County Clerk W. E. Lohan Jr notes marriage licenses rose from $5 to $7.50 under the 65th Legislature. The new fees take effect Aug 29 and widen charges for document recording birth/death certificates cattle brands and notary bonds among others.
