In a voice echoing editorials, readers question Amendment No 1 to raise Texas legislators to 7500 a year and require annual sessions, arguing good men cannot afford Austin life for six months every year while noting past scandals and lobbyist influence.
Brady Bulldogs visit Lampasas for a decisive district game that could clinch playoff berth. Lampasas relies on Buster Smith and Marshall McMillan with QB John Bush directing plays. Brady fights injuries to Royce Blackburn and Kenneth Bode as they aim to derail the Badgers on Dad's Night.
Dr. Harry Priess and Hymie Myers led a Thursday session on the McCulloch County Community Chest drive. The budget goal remained undecided as agencies have not set their budgets. The Budget Committee of Don F. Johnson M. M. Bradham and Jamie Williamson met with Chest directors to finalize plans.
J and Mrs A J Ricks Jr unveil their new furniture and appliance store on West Main Street with a public opening Friday. The remodeled building features an extended balcony for kitchen and dinette displays, white porcelain enamel front, and new peg board displays. Heating and air conditioning services will also be offered at the new location.
Seventy Mc Culloch County residents are urged to donate at a Red Cross Bloodmobile visit on Wednesday November 5 from 10 am to 4 pm in the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall. Lions Club leads recruitment for the event. Blood is free to recipients though hospitals may charge for cross matching and administration. Blood stored at the Waco Blood Center serves local and participating hospitals.
To elect officers and name delegates to the state Farm Bureau convention in Corpus Christi November 9 to 12, the McCulloch County Farm Bureau will meet at 7 30 Monday at the electric cooperative building.
Mrs Tony Byrd received a free oil and filter change and a grease job Thursday morning. A Southwestern States Telephone employee handed keys to a filling station operator and told him to fetch his car at the telephone office. The operator brought back a matching model and make, but Mrs Byrd's car, parked nearby. The key worked in both cars.
The Brady High staff hosts a paid admission variety show Wednesday at 10 30 am in the BHS auditorium. Tickets are 25 cents at the door via Charlotte Griffith and Barbara McCord. The event features seven musical numbers with the Brady High Band, a vocal trio, a Gettysburg Address cat talk, vocal solo, jazz trumpet tune, a reorganized band, and a solo twirling routine by Charlotte Kay Kyzar.
The City Council calls for bids on a bath house for the new Country Club pool. Plans available at City Hall. Bids open December 1 to finish before next spring swim season.
Voters face a long ballot next Tuesday with many Democratic nominees and a few Republican and Constitution Party names. The U S Senate race pits Ralph W Yarborough against Roy Whittenburg. most attention will go to amendments especially No 1 proposing $7500 yearly legislative pay and No 7 aiding tourism and industry funding. McCulloch County polls open 8 am to 7 pm with scratch voting rules.
G. R. White stages his first dispersal sale offering more than 40 Thoroughbreds. The event shifts from Heart O' Texas to Jubilee for seating and access as buyers from across the United States and Mexico seek catalogs for race horses brood mares and saddles. Auctioneer Walter Britten will preside starting at 1 p.m.
