Brady Lake gun club forms with NRA affiliation planned

Dr. Jerry Wood named president of the Brady Red and Gun Club at a Plateau Restaurant breakfast. A 48 foot covered range under construction at the east end of Brady Lake offers 50 to 300 yard targets, skeet and trap shooting, with Lake Officer Pinkie Burns patrolling. Initiation is ten dollars, dues five annually, with two week charter membership drive.

Heart Association Honors McCulloch Figures at San Angelo Meeting

Mrs Sally Taylor of Doole McCulloch County was elected second vice president of the Southwest Texas Heart Association executive committee at the Holiday Inn San Angelo event. Dr Albert McCulloch Brady joined the board of directors. County honored for top fundraising. A Texas Heart Association award noted the greatest percent rise in giving. Dr John L Read discussed a new motion picture X ray machine and artery transplant advances.

Light turnout urged for Tuesday Texas amendments vote

McCulloch County and the state prepare for an election on ten proposed constitutional amendments. Voters show little interest with only two absentee votes polled by Thursday. Citizens are urged to study the ballot and cast their ballots, while election judges are asked to report final counts to The Standard Office after completion.

Bands Set For UIL Contest In Brady On November 20

Thirty two bands totaling about 1899 students will compete in the UIL marching contest at Bulldog Stadium Brady. About 200 to 250 more may accompany as chaperones and family members. Bands are split into classes AAA AA A B and CCC with Gatesville leading the largest 100 piece ensemble and Glen Rose sending the smallest with 33 members.

Ministers Elect Rev Dan Harry President of Group

Officers of the McCullough County Ministerial Association were chosen at the October meeting held at the First Christian Church in Brady. The Rev Dan Harry of Trinity Methodist Church is named president with the Rev Bill Boswell of First Christian Church as secretary treasurer. Retiring officers include the Rev Boswell as president and the Rev Lamar Leifeste of First Methodist Church as secretary treasurer. A Union Thanksgiving Service will be held.

Directors Re Named By McCulloch Farm Bureau

McCulloch County Farm Bureau re elected six directors by acclamation at the annual meeting. Warren Jones Lindsay Passmore H W Krackemeyer Howard Bloomer Paul Hanson and David Dahlberg were named. Two resolutions were adopted for the state convention in Dallas November 15 17. One urged removal of excise tax on farm tires and other necessities. The second called for increasing the dependent income tax exemption from 600 to 8600. County Agent Lovell Kuykendall highlighted 4 H winners. Mrs. Warren Jones received a ten year service gift. A November meeting will elect officers and assign committees.

Bloodmobile to Visit Brady on Wednesday November 3

Local Red Cross urges new donors as McCulloch County trails its 70 unit Brady quota for this Bloodmobile visit. Donors must pass medical screening. donation takes about five minutes plus lounge time. Last reports show 249 units donated by county residents and 450 used by June, with a life saving pint possible at the November 3 drive.

Harvest Boosts Cotton Harvest in McCulloch County West Texas

McCulloch County gins reported 2 111 bales by 6 p m Wednesday with about one third of the crop picked. Lohn gin counted 1 005 bales, Dode 464, Fife 305 and Pearson 336, Brady warehouse weighing 2 850 bales. Samuelson says harvest continues at about 200 bales daily as fair weather persists. County Agent Kuykendall expects most of the crop to be gathered in the next week or two.
