Cancer Society Aims Presented at Meeting
The McCulloch County Unit of the American Cancer Society met at the Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Donald Pentecost reported on District 4 in San Angelo and the Dallas division meeting. Goals include pap smears for 75 percent of women over 21, proctoscopic exams for 30 percent over 40, 50 percent breast self exams, oral cancer screening by dentists and physicians, and cutting smoking in teens and adults. The next board meeting is Jan 4, 1966 at 7:30 p.m. Invitees may attend.

Brady Sorosis Receives Civic Merit Certificate
The Sorosis Club of Brady earned a Certificate of Merit from the Sears Roebuck Foundation for its role in the 1964 1966 Community Improvement Program co sponsored by the Foundation and The General Federation of Women's Clubs. Ricks Couple Return From Kelvinator Trip Abroad
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Ricks arrived home Wednesday evening after a 10 day Kelvination sponsored tour that visited Austria and Greece. They flew from Dallas to Chicago then to Vienna and on to Athens with side trips including a visit to the Agean Sea and several historical islands.

Tracy Townsend Mercury Farmer Dies at 76
Funeral services for Tracy Townsend 76 of Route 1 Mercury were held Thursday at Mercury Baptist Church. Townsend died Tuesday at 2 30 a m in a Dallas hospital after a two year illness. He was born February 5 1889 at Klein and lived near Mercury since 1915. Survivors include his wife Maggie Sykes a daughter a brother two sisters and a grandson.

The Brady Rod and Gun Club hosts a pre season shoot at Brady Lake rifle range Sunday at 3 pm with matchups including Deadeye Paul Willis versus Sudden Death Spiller Boswell and Otto The Kid Frederick versus Lightnin Hardin Jones. Frank Corder and Ed Davenport also feature. Admission is free and the public is invited. Deer season starts November 15.

In McCulloch County a constitutional amendment election produced six approved proposals while the state endorsed five. Voters favored Financing College Buildings Veterans Land Fund Teachers Retirement Funds Texas Opportunity Plan Judges Retirement. They rejected four year terms for state officials hospital tax exemption salaries for the Lt Gov and Speaker and four year terms for Representatives. Brady cast 476 votes. county totals approached 700 ballots.

Brady National Guard Reorganizes for New Brigade
The Brady National Guard unit is reorganizing effective November 1 to provide 270 personnel for a new high priority brigade of the 66th Infantry Division in the San Antonio area. The move is a paper transfer. personnel will drill in Brady and return within two to three months.

Special Services Open Sunday at First Methodist Brady
The Rev. Barela Moore of St. Andrews Church San Antonio will lead special services at Brady First Methodist from Nov 7 to Nov 19. He will preach Sunday evening and every evening at 7 30 with morning services at 7 am in the fellowship hall. Rainfall Brings Modest Moisture to McCulloch County
A weather change in McCulloch County and the Heart of Texas brings cooler temperatures and light rain. Brady reports .37 inch while overall county rainfall remains near par, halting cotton harvest and peanut threshing as farmers hope for a heavier rain. The drizzle began Tuesday night and continued into Wednesday morning before a cool front arrived Thursday.

Bloodmobile trip nets sixteen first time donors
Seventy two pints of blood collected in a single Bloodmobile visit, described as highly successful by Mrs. Howard Salter, local Red Cross executive secretary. Sixteen first time donors joined the effort, with several reaching one and two gallon clubs as replacements supported Brady Hospital patients. A long list of donors from Brady and surrounding areas accompanied the drive.
