UIL Band Marching Contest Set for Nov 20 at Brady

Brady will host the University Interscholastic League Region VII Band Marching and Twirling Contest on Saturday November 20. James Mallow the local band director says about 30 to 40 junior and senior high school bands will march in Bulldog Stadium with twirling events on the practice field.

Alley Named District 14 Expressway Engineer

Benny A Alley of Austin formerly of Fife has been appointed District Expressway Engineer for District 14 in Austin and will start October 1. He holds a UT civil engineering degree and has 12 years with the Texas Highway Department. A test event in Brady will feature bands from multiple towns with a chance at a sweepstakes trophy.

McCulloch 4-H Clubs To Exhibit Stock At Dallas Fair

McCulloch County 4-H members will show livestock at the State Fair in Dallas from October 18. County Agent Lowell Kuykendall and several fathers and mothers accompany the group. Judging runs Wednesday and Thursday, with calf sales Friday and lambs and hogs Saturday. Participants include Ringer, Bratton, Whitworth, Deans and others showing calves lambs and hogs. group departs Sunday and returns the following Saturday.

Mrs Lee Threadgill and Threadgill family notified of captaincy

Notification that late Lee Threadgill was made a captain in the U S Air Force retroactive to July 15. If not killed in a plane accident in August he would have earned captain’s bars October 15.

Farm Bureau To Meet on Oct 26

The McCulloch County Farm Bureau sets its annual meeting for October 26 at 7 30 p m in the Brady High School auditorium. Registration begins at 6 30 p m. President David Dahlberg urges members to submit resolutions by October 21.

Mrs Clare Haywood Plans Winter in Rockport

Mrs Clare Haywood of Melvin will leave Saturday for a winter check up at M D Anderson Hospital in Houston and then spend the season with her sister in Rockport. She expects to return home in Melvin the first part of March.

Brady Stamp and Commerce Association Redeems $100000

The Brady Stamp and Commerce Association redeemed its first $100000 in Brady Stamp books last week when Mrs J D Bailey exchanged stamps for a table lamp at Ricks Furniture. Formed in 1960 as a non profit the group supports local 4 H clubs and other county projects while speedily expanding merchant participation and planning.

Bulldogs Open SAA Race Against Mason

Brady High opens district play at Bulldog Stadium with the Bulldogs facing Mason in a bid to start the SAA race on a strong note. Coach Rapp’s Punchers bring a 1-4 record but six returning lettermen and a tested line, while Brady’s passing game shows signs of improvement after a 12-for-15, 234-yard effort last weekend.

Brady delegation seeks grant for Curtis Field repairs

A Brady group led by Mayor John Rudder met with the Texas Aeronautics Commission in Austin to push for a matching funds grant for Curtis Field upgrades. The plan covers four items including a turn around area, apron rebuild and resurfacing, and a lighted wind cone with a 32,500 project cost.

Brady Lions hear travel program by local contest winners

Contest winners from Richland Springs and Brookesmith presented a travel program to the Brady Lions Club after lunch at the Plateau Restaurant. Advancements For Brady Cub Scouts Pack 424

Cub Scouts of America Pack 424 met in the First Christian Church fellowship hall to plan fall and spring programs and form new dens. Den 4 opened with a flag ceremony and awards were presented by Cubmaster Wayne Rawlings and assistant James Dale Carson. Webelos badges were given to a group led by James Carmichael and others. A downtown Brady Scouting In Action show was announced for early November to showcase local Scout work.

Mrs Jordan Found Dead At Her Home Here

Mrs Louise Striegler Jordan 87 was found dead at her 105 W Marshall home by her brother Wednesday about 1 30 pm. She was born March 1 1878 in Fredericksburg and had lived in McCulloch County over 45 years. Funeral 3 30 pm Thursday Wilkerson Chapel, burial Bethel Cemetery. Survivors include son Rey Lee Jordan of San Antonio, six sisters and two brothers.
