Brady Volunteers to Demonstrate Fire-Fighting Skills

Brady volunteers will stage an oil pit fire demonstration next Tuesday night as National Fire Prevention Week runs October 7 to 13. Fire Chief Joe McAnally and guest speaker John D. Rider will address audiences at Brady Junior High, Brady High, the Rotary Club luncheon, and Rochelle High School. Rider’s visit is arranged by Waldrop Insurance Agency with cooperation from the Brady Fire Department and local schools. The event explains using water to extinguish gasoline fires and warns against splashing water on grease fires.

Bank Elects New Director In Brady

Dr. J. S. King elected as director of Brady National Bank replacing Dr. B. A. Hallam Jr. Hallam attends school in New Orleans. King has lived in Brady since March 1947 and earned a veterinary medicine degree from Texas A&M. He works with Dr. Richard Winters at Brady Veterinary Hospital. King and his wife Fay Stone have two children.

Brady 4-H Boys Club Organized Meeting Planned

The Brady 4-H Boys Club will meet Saturday at 10 in the County Agent Norman Drake office for an organizational meeting. Boys aged 9 to 21 who attend Brady schools and want 4-H membership are invited, as are parents of current and prospective members.

Ministers to Plan Halloween CROP Collection

The McCulloch County Ministerial Alliance calls a meeting of youth representatives sponsors and ministers from cooperating churches at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Monday Oct 8 at 7 30 p m to discuss plans for the Halloween CROP collection. For each dollar raised 30 pounds of surplus food will be sent overseas and Rev Pill Douglas is the county chairman this year.

Former Resident Dies at Whitney

Joe Wilson, 75, formerly of McCulloch County, died in Whitney on Tuesday September 30 and was buried there Thursday. Attending the funeral were K W Huffman and wife, H J Huffman, Joe Ranne, Bill Lankford, H C Urban, and Bill Huffman.

State Court Upholds Sheffield Sentence

The State Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin upheld a six year prison term for R. R. Sheffield of Brady. He was convicted in 1954 of passing a forged document to the Veterans Land Board. His lawyers argued the trial evidence was insufficient to support the conviction.

Richard Moseley of Rochelle fell at his ranch home Saturday crushing a vertebra. He is in Brady Hospital. expected to be released soon with a back brace.
