Brady banks report deposits totaling 7 260 153 as of Sept 24 up from 6 659 611 last fall. Loans rise to 2 225 906 from 2 095 107 in the prior year with both banks posting higher figures overall.
Brady residents will see local telephone numbers changed with the prefix LY 7 when the new directory debuts November 10. Most numbers will gain only the prefix, though some will receive entirely new digits. A. J. Lacy of Southwestern States Telephone urges planning for stationery and business materials, as the change enables long distance dialing from Brady next spring to 38 million telephones in 8,000 U.S. cities and towns.
A Hula Hoop contest will be held at the Brady Theatre Saturday morning starting at 10 o clock. Kay Caywood Brady Theatre manager announces two age brackets 3 to 6 and 7 to 12 with four prizes for winners and runners up. All children are invited to enter.
Mr and Mrs Johnny Caylor arrived in Brady on a 15 day leave from army service. Mr Caylor is stationed at Fort Smith Arkansas and they will be guests of their respective parents.
The McCulloch County grand jury will reconvene Friday morning to investigate the death of Jommy Gene Thacker 19 of Pear Valley found on the Santa Anna highway September 21. An inquest verdict of accidental death was returned by Justice of Peace Joe Myrick after a woman stated she hit something on the highway around 1 15 a m that night. The woman said she did not know what she hit whether a man or object and officers have not filed charges. The verdict says Thacker died after being hit by an automobile with a blunt object crushing the lower part and his skull behind the right ear killing him instantly.
The Central Texas Telephone Co op holds its fifth annual membership meeting in Goldthwaite next Monday. Registration starts at 1 p m in the American Legion Hall, with the meeting beginning at 2 p m. Members will elect new directors and conduct business amid a long list of attendance prizes.
Carl W. Lenhart Sr. sworn in as Brady police chief on Wednesday. Interim chief Ted Lacey, who resigned to return to Pearsall, will stay until October 15 to introduce him to the department.

Brady reports an uptick in building activity as nine permits totaling 17 900 were issued in September. Projects include additions to residences at 202 South Mulberry 1201 South Elm 406 West White and 205 West Grove. A motel room addition at 603 West Commerce and a business building at 1906 South Bridge are listed among the permits.
Rosita Soto, a 13 year old Mexican girl who came here last year for foot operations, has returned to Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio for examination. Doctors will fit new shoes and braces and decide if more surgery is needed. Rosita has been in Mexico since last March.
McCulloch County Farm Bureau will meet at 7 30 p m Tuesday Oct 7 at the electric co op building to plan activities and discuss local agricultural concerns.
Brady coach Chuck York says his undefeated Bulldogs will travel to Stamford for a tough early season clash. Stamford boasts a veteran backfield led by quarterback Fred Upshaw and star fullback Donald Davis, with a strong line and depth across end and guard positions.
