The Chamber of Commerce seeks 175 new members and a budget of about 9500. Current membership is 225 with five year receipts between 5300 and 6000. Frank Corder says the drive is delayed awaiting a work program and urges large contributions to cover annual operations.
The Water committee faced a 2 million dollar lake debt burden for Brady. The columnist argues the bill equals 400 per resident and urges pursuing a downstream site with fewer rail/road impacts, to keep a future lake option and avoid tied towns.
Mrs. Richard Moseley of Rochelle Sixth District president and Miss Mollie Bierschwale of Mason first vice president participated in a Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs state board meeting held in Denton over Wednesday Thursday and Friday.
Ruth Nelin daughter of Mr and Mrs Cecil Nelin enrolled at Trinity University on Sept 11. She was escorted to San Antonio by her mother to a tea for new students and parents at Dr Laurie president home. Mary Ann Dillon daughter of Mr and Mrs Ben Dillon also attended the tea.
The Chamber of Commerce drafts a tentative program with committees led by Andy Allen B C Broad A H Floyd Edmond Ellison R A McShan Ben Dillon Wesley Bratton Frank Corder George Carruthers and A P Waldrop. Goals include field trips new crops aviation education flood control welcome programs highway signage youth programs member information and budget outreach.
Carl W. Lenhart Sr. of San Antonio is appointed Brady police chief succeeding Ted Lacey. Lenhart, 58, will start Oct 1 with Lacey staying until Oct 15. Lenhart has 28 years with SAPD and prior chief posts at Alice and Port Lavaca. He recently served as chief security officer for the National Bank of Commerce in San Antonio. He and his wife have three children, including a son in the SAPD. He is a Lions Club member and holds ranks in Masons and police associations.
City crews completed a six block new paving and seal coat of 30 blocks of old pavement as part of a yearly program to sealcoat 25 to 30 blocks. City Supt. James Feazelle notes other groups fell short on owner signups and urges continued effort. E. W. Wilson of San Angelo was contractor.
An employment service is now operated at the Chamber of Commerce office. Workers may leave name and qualifications and employers may list needs. The agency will refer job seekers to employers and vice versa.
Brady Bulldogs face flu and cold woes as Dads Night ceremonies set for Friday at 7 45 p m. Coach Chuck York notes wet field conditions, players in hospital and at home with flu, while Coleman’s Pat DeBusk and Jerry Harris pose a sharp, dangerous challenge with a strong defense and Harris passing.
Melvin Bulldogs led by new coach Charles Seyder will host Robert Lee Friday night in Melvin in a non district game. Mr and Mrs T O Perrin Jr and Cheryl from Austin spent the weekend with Mrs Edna Ulrich. Perrin in his second year at the Theological Seminary in Austin led morning services at St Andrews Presbyterian Church in San Angelo.
Mrs Kate Kitchens of Enid Oklahoma is visiting this week with her sister Mrs J H Behrens as a guest of family.
St Patrick's Catholic Church hosts a Fall Festival Barbecue Supper at the National Guard Armory starting 6 p m on Oct 11. Alfred Schwertner of Melvin is general chairman with Mrs H E Keim of Brady as co chairwoman. Tickets cost 1 for adults and 50 cents for children available from church members. Booth chairs include Cake Walk Mrs Charles Baker Doll Raffle Mrs B L Hughes Doll Wheel Mrs Gardner Broad Food Store and Little Girl Booth Miss Nell Rice Weight Guessing Jim Rice Dart Board John Moran Ring Game John Pellizzari Magician Mrs Milt Miller. A children’s magic show appears at 7 7 45 and 8 30.
The three man County ASC Committee was reappointed for another year at the Brady county convention. Members are Ben Hodges chairman E O Henderson vice chairman and Earl Dahlberg member. Jonce Adams became first alternate succeeding the late Lowell Smith while Leon C Barton was named second alternate. Delegates to the convention were John W Brown Paul Hanson and Dana Henderson.
The Brady Tuesday Club hosts an exhibition of paintings and sculpture by Gonpins Academy of Fine Arts of San Antonio at Richards Memorial Library October 14 and 15. Dr Waldine Tauch and Erwin and Mrs. Wesp arranged the show with local committee support and a tea opening on October 14.
