June Reception At Governor's Mansion For District 12

The Passing PARADE notes a June 5 to 7 reception at the Governor's Mansion honoring Senatorial District 12 and district guests from Ward district 13 and Ratliff’s District 24. Host L B Smith and Vivian expect many Brady area residents and former Brady leaders to attend, including J O Wallace of Rockwall, a former Brady teacher and bank chairman.

McCulloch County Grains Near Average Yields Across County

Farmers report McCulloch County grains near average with oats outperforming wheat. Oats expected 40 to 45 bushels per acre, wheat 15 to 20. Browning foresees 49 bushels per acre on 40 acres of oats, with wheat hit by rust and less filling out. Peanut and cotton planting favored by dry spells, maize and sorghum progressing, overall an average agriculture year.

Purse Grows For Futurity Race At Jubilee Meet

Forty six horses have completed the third Brady Futurity stage paying 100 dollars, boosting the futurity purse to 4900 dollars with potential finals of 712000 to 15000. The Brady Derby purse remains 2000. another 50 dollar entry fee will apply. Four trials are planned June 20 for finals July 5, with consolation races for next best times. The Jubilee three day meet July 4 to 6 will feature 8 to 11 races daily and added money across purses from 300 to 700 dollars. New stalls will be ready in about two weeks as grounds receiving repairs and painting proceed. Miss Heart of Texas pageant finalists include Phyllis Solsberg and others, with the event July 8 staged by Beta Sigma Phi. a downtown parade is set for July 1, races starting at 2 p.m.

Services Held For Mrs. Lena Matthews in Brady

Mrs. Lena Bird Matthews 83 of Brady died Wednesday at Brady Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services were held Thursday in Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Henry Mejjroom officiating, burial in Live Oak Cemetery. Born Oct 20 1885 in Voca she lived in Brady 60 years. Survivors include her brother Fred Spiller and sister Mrs Len Wootton plus relatives. Poppy Day Saturday May 24 will be observed as American Legion Auxiliary members sell poppies in Brady.

Nugent Releases Opinion Survey in 55th District

State Rep. James Nugent announced that his Austin office has mailed a 235 question survey to residents in nine counties of the 55th Legislative District. The survey seeks views on major issues and invites constructive comments to guide his representation of Texans.

Mrs Bradshaw Named LVN of the Year for Brady

Mrs. John Bradshaw of McCulloch County receives the Licensed Vocational Nurse of the Year award. She trained in 1960 61 and has since cared for the elderly at home and in Brady Hospital venues while teaching Sunday school and singing in the church choir. The honor includes attendance at the San Antonio league convention in June 2021.

Equalization Board For 69 10 Named By Council

The Brady City Council appointed an equalization board for 1969 70. Members are Jim McFarlin J J Seals and C A Watson. A new pollution law bans open burning effective July 1 and regulations will be publicized. R L Barnett is surveying lease lots north of Brady Lake. leases start on a first come basis once ready. City Light Engine tests are planned next week. Dunbar swimming pool opens mid next week with Alonzo Reed managing.

Mrs Sloane 64 Dies After Illness In Brady

Mrs. Tuppy Sloane 64 of Brady died at 11 a m Wednesday in Brady Hospital after a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p m Friday in Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with Jack Shelton and J L Gary officiating. Burial at Gouldbush Cemetery. Born September 8 1904 in Itasca she lived in Brady since 1955. Survivors include two sons James Sloane of Brady and Jack Sloane of Fort Worth, four daughters Rose Doyle Eldorado Fay Poe Arlington Betty McMillan Brady and Peggy Clark Mansfield, three brothers Lloyd Garrett Fort Worth Euless Garrett Houston and T J Garrett Benavides, two sisters Mia J W Row Coleman and Mrs Chester Machen Fort Worth, and two grandchildren.
