Dr. B A Hallam Jr a Brady physician leaves by July 1 for three year training at Tulane University New Orleans. He will specialize in eye treatment surgery infections glasses and operations. He plans to wind up business by June 20 and turn patient records over to Brady Hospital. His wife and children will stay in Brady for his first year in New Orleans.

Summer Band School Set for June to July
Brady Band Director James Mallow will lead a six week Summer Band School for beginners through high school students. Sessions run June 5 to July 14 with three 60 minute classes weekly in the high school band hall. Ninth graders and above meet 8:30 to 9:30, seventh and eighth graders 9:45 to 10:45, beginners 10:55 to 11:55. Tuition is 7 dollars per student.

Cancer Crusade Volunteers Raise Four Figures in 1961 Drive
In McCulloch County the 1961 Cancer Crusade raised about $1,800 with a volunteer force of around 100. The residential drive led by Mrs B A Hallam Jr and others contributed roughly $600, the advance gifts division added about $750, and school solicitations plus rural, memorial and film efforts made up the remaining $450. Dr. Harry Priess praised donors and media partners for increasing cancer awareness.

Grass Fire Burns 25 Acres Near Melvin Ranch
A grass fire on the John Rodgers ranch eight miles west of Melvin burned about 25 acres. Rodgers and his wife fought the blaze for an hour before summoning the Melvin and Eden Fire Departments. Firefighters saved an adjoining oat field and prevented spread to the Ledbetter property. The blaze began around 10:30 a.m. and flared again Monday afternoon.
