Doctor Hallam to Leave Brady for Tulane Training

Dr. B A Hallam Jr a Brady physician leaves by July 1 for three year training at Tulane University New Orleans. He will specialize in eye treatment surgery infections glasses and operations. He plans to wind up business by June 20 and turn patient records over to Brady Hospital. His wife and children will stay in Brady for his first year in New Orleans.

Council Opens Bids On Ditching Machine

The City Council opened bids on a backhoe ditching machine but delayed a decision until City Supt. James Feazelle can analyze offers for best fit in water and sewer projects. Diesel bids ranged 6287 to 7234 dollars and gasoline bids 6148 to 6844 dollars.

Summer Band School Set for June to July

Brady Band Director James Mallow will lead a six week Summer Band School for beginners through high school students. Sessions run June 5 to July 14 with three 60 minute classes weekly in the high school band hall. Ninth graders and above meet 8:30 to 9:30, seventh and eighth graders 9:45 to 10:45, beginners 10:55 to 11:55. Tuition is 7 dollars per student.

Honor Grads Named for Melvin Class

Melvin High School names Roy Lynn Ferris valedictorian with 92.7 average and Alma Pina salutatorian with 92.5 for the senior class. Ferris plans 7:45 p m commencement with Dr Duncan Tidwell as speaker and diploma presentations by Paul Huntington and George Dewey Jenkins.

Miller Family Attends Mother's Day Parade at A&M College

Mr and Mrs Dallas Miller and daughter Frederica Miller visited College Station last Sunday for the Mother's Day parade at Texas A&M. Their son Stanley Miller is a student there.

Cancer Crusade Volunteers Raise Four Figures in 1961 Drive

In McCulloch County the 1961 Cancer Crusade raised about $1,800 with a volunteer force of around 100. The residential drive led by Mrs B A Hallam Jr and others contributed roughly $600, the advance gifts division added about $750, and school solicitations plus rural, memorial and film efforts made up the remaining $450. Dr. Harry Priess praised donors and media partners for increasing cancer awareness.

FFA Boys Elect New Officers in Brady Chapter

Don Anderson elected president of the Brady FFA for 1961-62. Kenneth Hudspeth is vice president, Virgil Moore secretary, J Roy Richie treasurer, Gil Engdahl reporter, Larry Henderson sentinel. George Kidd presided at the last meeting as treasurer Joe King reported about $300 profits from the rodeo, with Anderson to attend the State FFA Convention in Dallas in July 1921.

Thirteen members of Brady High School's 1961 graduating class recorded averages of 90 or better over the last two years. Mrs. Jessie Cunyus Dies in Waco Funeral Attendees

Mrs. Jessie Cunyus, mother of Harold Cunyus a Bradyite, died at her home in Waco last Saturday May 13. She was aunt to Mrs. Vaughn White and T. P. Wood of Brady and they with Mrs. Wood attended the funeral in Waco on Wednesday.

Grass Fire Burns 25 Acres Near Melvin Ranch

A grass fire on the John Rodgers ranch eight miles west of Melvin burned about 25 acres. Rodgers and his wife fought the blaze for an hour before summoning the Melvin and Eden Fire Departments. Firefighters saved an adjoining oat field and prevented spread to the Ledbetter property. The blaze began around 10:30 a.m. and flared again Monday afternoon.

Jubilee debt leaves float at risk for summer parade

Jubilee directors wrestle with a $750 debt after the County Commissioners Court withdrew financial support and title to the parade float. Ed Davenport must try to meet the schedule of appearances in Llano San Saba Coleman Ballinger Mason Fredericksburg Junction and Kerrville while seeking funds and resolving title and insurance questions.
