Scholarship Honors Former Brady Publisher

A new University of Texas School of Journalism scholarship honors M. S. Doc Sellers former Brady Sentinel publisher. Wayne C. Sellers son and Rock Hill Evening Herald assistant publishes the award to aid a male student whose $250 could keep him in school. Dr. DeWitt C. Reddick leads the selection committee.

War Veterans To Meet Sunday in Brady

The annual spring convention of the Veterans of World War One, U. S. A. and Ladies Auxiliary of District 21 will be held at the National Guard Armory in Brady Sunday. Representatives from the 17 county district are expected. Guest speakers include Roger Q. Evans, Texas Department Commander, and R. R. McKinney, senior vice commander of the Texas Department. Registration starts at 8 a.m. Memorial services at 10:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church led by Rev. J. J. Jordan. A barbecue lunch follows at noon, with afternoon business sessions scheduled.

Recreation Events Scheduled: Program Starts June 5

Brady schools and the City of Brady sponsor a four week Summer Recreation Program beginning Monday June 5. Activities include story hour for 5 and 6 year olds, track for 4th to 8th graders, tennis for 4th to 8th graders, bowling classes, free swimming at the municipal pool, and Little League and Pony League seasons opening at Richards Park.

Brady UT Student Named Award for Spanish Work

Tony Dutton of Brady, a University of Texas student and 1959 Brady High graduate, is recommended for a scholarship from the Department of Romance Languages. The award of 25 dollars per semester for the 1961 62 year recognizes outstanding achievement in Spanish and supports tuition.

Brady Guard Unit Adds Two Pltgs to Reach 104

Two additional platoons from Santa Anna were assigned to Brady's National Guard unit, boosting authorized strength from 66 to 104. The transfer fills four of five platoons in the Combat Support Company of the Second Battle Group, 142nd Infantry, with mortar remaining in Santa Anna. Brady will host two weeks of summer encampment at North Fort Hood starting July 23.

Brady to Close for Memorial Day Holiday

Brady will be closed next Tuesday for Memorial Day observance. Memorial Day replaces Armistice Day on Brady’s holiday schedule, May 30 was authorized as one of six holidays in a Chamber of Commerce survey last year.

Mrs Reed Returns from Las Vegas Holiday Visit

Mrs D Reed came home Tuesday after a stay in Las Vegas Nevada where she was a guest of her mother Mrs Mary Gamel and brother Bill Gamel and family. She also visited a granddaughter JoJo Cannon in Scottsdale Arizona during the trip.

Auto Rams Truck: Tech Student Hurt

George Dalton Brooks a 19 year old Texas Tech student from Raymondville sustained critical injuries when his 1960 Studebaker Lark rammed a parked hay truck on the San Angelo highway near Brady. Brooks pinned in wreckage until wind trucks freed him. He was hospitalized with head injuries facial cuts and possible internal injuries.

Burglars Fail At Boot Shop Break-In

John Pellizzari reports burglars attempted to break into John's Boot Shop at 206 South Blackburn Wednesday night. They pried at the door frame and padlock, leaving wood shavings. Pellizzari found the scene at 4 15 a m and suspects inexperienced intruders or curious youths.

New Presbyterian Pastor Moving Here

The Rev. Allen H. Brown of Jacksboro, recently called as pastor of the Prady Presbyterian Church, will move to Brady Saturday. He will attend church Sunday as a guest to meet the congregation and preach his first sermon Sunday June 4. He and his wife have four children aged 15 13 8 and 3.
