Guardsmen to Hold Open House Sunday

The National Guard Armory brady hosts open house Sunday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of Armed Forces Day. Visitors may tour Brady Armory see equipment displays and watch training platoons in action guides will answer questions.

Heart of Texas Golf Tournament Sees 65 Visiting Players

The Heart of Texas Businessmen's Golf Tournament expects a strong field with 65 out of town registrations already in. The event runs May 31 to June 3 at the Municipal Golf Course with limits of 80 out of town entrants and two Brady flights of 32 each. Local qualifiers run May 19–23. Brady caddy school for boys set May 29 at 5 p.m.. caddy fee is 3 dollars for 18 holes.

Recreation Leaders Invited to Workshop in Brady

A sub district recreation training workshop will be held at the Brady Municipal Clubhouse June 15 and 16 under Lu cille Moore of the state Agricultural Extension Service. County groups and surrounding counties may send representatives. Registration goes to Mrs Vyvien H Duncan Box 871 Brady. Attendance caps at 40 with three sessions each day and leaders to bring sack lunches.

County Democratic Convention Chooses Delegates

Five attendees at the county Democratic Convention held at the courthouse reported a peaceful meeting. County Chairman Paul Lohn noted harmony as a resolution pledged support for the party's nominees in November. Delegates elected include Herbert Harkrider Bill Jordan W E Hardin Clarence Salter Mrs G H Ricks Frank Lohn and Mrs Richard Moseley.

Cadet Robert Ricks, a SWTSC freshman and 1961 Brady High School graduate, has been promoted to cadet airman third class in the Air Force ROTC at Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos. He is the son of Dr and Mrs G H Ricks of Brady.

Ledbetter Found Insane in Wife’s Death Verdict

Rollie Ledbetter, 44, Brady rancher, was ruled insane by a Waco jury on both insanity at the time of his wife Gladys Rae Smith’s death and current insanity. He was committed to Rusk State Hospital. The case, moved from Brady with change of venue, follows a 1958 indictment and prior Austin trial.

Bandsmen to Sell Birthday Calendars Next Wednesday

The Band Boosters of the Pulldog Band plan a town canvass next Wednesday starting at 9 30 a m to sell Birthday Calendars. Each calendar costs 59 cents with 25 cent charges for listing birthdays anniversaries and club meeting dates up to a $2 50 family cap.

Melvin High Names Top Graduates for Commencement

Melvin High School will graduate its senior class Friday at 7 45 p m. Valedictorian Ronnie Cook and salutatorian Louise Turner lead with averages of 94 6 and 94 2 respectively. Norman Lawler begins construction of a new 8 100 square foot supermarket on South Bridge Street Brady on land bought in 1953. The Evans Food Way Stores will lease the facility with 50 000 to 60 000 dollars in fixtures. The project marks the chain's 15th store and expands Lawler's shopping center plans.

Rochelle Study Club Chuck Wagon Supper Set for June

The Rochelle Study Club announces its annual Chuck Wagon Supper for Thursday June 7 at the Richard Moseley ranch east of Rochelle. Mrs. Moseley chairs the event with volunteers arranging committees. A barbecue plate with coffee costs $1 for adults and 50 cents for children under 1. Proceeds fund Rochelle Community Center furnishing and maintenance. Tickets go on sale soon.

Oliver Family Honors Matriarch With Mother's Day Dinner

Mrs. M A Oliver, aged 89, was honored by her son A E Oliver and his wife at the Oliver home in Thalia on Mother's Day. Seven children grandchildren and great grandchildren attended, totaling 40 guests for a dinner in her honor.

Larry Smith a Brady Texas journalism senior will edit The Battalion this summer after confirmation by the Student Publications Board. The 22 year old son of L B Smith of Brady served as sports editor this year and was assistant sports editor last year, set to graduate at the end of the first summer term.
