4-H Food Show Set Saturday Afternoon

The second annual County 4-H Favorite Food Show will be held at the Boy Scout Lodge Saturday with judging from 1 30 to 2 30 pm. Exhibits open to the public after judging. Winners advance to District 7 in San Angelo in June. Vyvien Duncan invites the public to attend.

Brady School Board Elects Teachers and Hires Siler

The Brady School Board elected Guy Siler of Lohn as vocational agriculture teacher at Brady High to replace Bill Coleman who will move to Iowa State University next year. Several teachers for 1962-63 were chosen, with staffing details by ward and subject, and a number of staff requested not to be considered for next year’s contracts.

Joint Choirs To Sing for Music Week

In observance of National Music Week vesper services will be held at the First Baptist Church at 5 p m Sunday with public invitation. Choirs from several local churches and Dunbar School will perform and the combined First Methodist and First Baptist Choirs will present a number. A quartet led by Mrs Don Hale and joined by Korky Steffens James Mallow and George Archer will sing, with Mrs B Simpson delivering the welcome. Committee members include Mrs Posey Collins Mrs Don Hale and Mrs Norman Archer.

Brady School Board weighs band trip to Dallas for Brady Day

The Brady School Board will study feasibility of sending the Bulldog Band to the State Fair in Dallas on Oct. 21 for Brady Day. Other actions include purchasing 1% Underwood typewriters for $895 total, an Olivette calculator for offices, a new school bus chassis with 1951 body reconditioning, a commercial lawnmower, and appointing a committee to study athletic finances.

Brady Considers Toll Free Area Plan With Southwestern States

The Brady City Council heard Southwestern States Telephone Company seek a rate hike and an extended area service link to nearby exchanges including Melvin Rochelle Voca and Lohn. Officials urged a June 12 decision while noting co op pressure and the need for new equipment. Residents would dial Brady toll free but some exchanges would be excluded.

SCS Engineer Sees Brady Lake Work

Phil Price, state Soil Conservation Service engineer, toured Brady Lake under construction with Harold Baker and local officials. SCS funds and technical aid support the city’s largest Texas flood control and water supply dam, with inspections by SCS engineers Ralph White and Bill Bruce.

Hudspeth Heads Brady High Student Council 1962 63

Kenneth Hudspeth was elected president of the Brady High Student Council for 1962 63 in a runoff Tuesday with Robert Shurtleff. Other officers elected include Mark Day vice president Judy Davenport secretary and Jeannette Sorell treasurer. Raylene Taylor won alternate cheerleader in a runoff with Eileen Brown.

Cancer Society Chooses Officers At May Meeting

The McCulloch County Cancer Society will meet Tuesday May 15 at 7 30 p m at the Chamber of Commerce office. A report on the 1962 Cancer Crusade by Chairman Hymie Myers will be presented and officers for 1962 63 elected including a new president vice president secretary treasurer and eleven directors. The meeting is open to the public per Dr Harry C Priess the society president.

Daughter Born To Dr Granville Family In Houston

Dr and Mrs George Granville of Houston announce the birth of a daughter on Wednesday May 9. The infant weighed six pounds six ounces and has not been named yet. They also have a son David. Paternal grandmother is Mrs Vera Granville.

Melvin Seniors Near Graduation

The Melvin School prepares closing programs for the 1961 62 year with a baccalaureate service Sunday night. Ernest McCoy of the Fourth and Bridge Street Church of Christ Brady will give the baccalaureate address at 7 45 p m in the Melvin School auditorium. County School Supt J E Herrington will speak next Thursday night for grade school exercises. Penrose B Metcalfe of the State Board of Education will deliver the high commencement night May 18.
