Census bulletin reports 3,112 bathtubs and 3,888 housing units in McCulloch County from the 1960 census. It lists 3,014 occupied units, 2,033 fit to live with plumbing, 2,151 owner occupied, average home value under 5,000, and 863 with renters paying median rent of 49 dollars.
A sneak thief entered through a back door at 1102 South College and stole a radio from Mrs. C. P. Gray while she gardened. Children across the street alerted Police Chief Gibbs about a man and a boy in a pickup truck seen near the house. The pair fled after a front door knock and a later back door entry.
Central Baptist Church announces Vacation Bible School preparations on Saturday with a prep day at 9 a.m. The program runs Monday May 28 for five days from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Ino Welder of Victoria, TSCRA president, announced Fred Wulff of Brady will chair the water conservation committee and sit on the advisory group Texas branch laws executive and resolutions committees. G. R. White and H. Mason Crocker of Brady will serve on various committees. The TSCRA holds its quarterly directors meeting in Waco on June 22-23.

Brady will observe Poppy Day on Saturday with a silent tribute to fallen veterans. The red blossom symbolizes remembrance for those who died in service in three wars defending freedom.
Reader's Digest features a true thriller about Captain Elmer E. Witten of Lampasas who was wounded and paralyzed in Korea. Major Tremblay wrote the piece after first flying with a pilot over enemy territory, describing the dangerous mission and Witten’s survival.
Final plans for the Waubansee County Fair were made by Episcipal Church members at a picnic. The event June 16 at Waubansee near Camp San Saba will feature the first McCulloch County house, a county store with homemade bread jams and jellies, booths, a swim pool open 4 to 9 p.m., and free ground admission for barbecue ticket buyers. General chairmen are Mrs. F. R. Wulff Sr Frank Roddie Sr and Mrs. J. G. Clawson.
The Lohn High School senior class heads to Washington D C with a side visit to New York City. Supt. Carroll Watkins notes Mc Culloch Countians should watch The Price Is Right on June 4 and one senior may participate. They travel with the superintendent and Mrs Watkins and Dr and Mrs J S King of Brady, leaving at 4 a m Saturday and stopping in Vicksburg Athens Hopesville Arlington before New York.
Seaman first class Cecil Williams of the U S Navy is transferred from the U S Preble in San Diego to Washington I C He will perform office work near the Capitol and plans to visit friends and relatives in Preby en route He is the son of Mr and Mrs John Williams of 1002 South Walnut
Mr and Mrs Bill Hargrove spent the past weekend as guests of their son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Sandy Daniel in Garland.
A parade sponsored by the Vacation Bible School of the First Baptist Church starts at 10 39 a m Saturday after Prepara tion Day begins at 9 a m. It moves along Blackburn Street to the square and back. The school serves children 3 to 1 years old and runs Monday through Friday from May 8 to June 1 at 8 30 am. Commencement is Sunday night, June 3.
Former Bull dog Band members who served under Douglas Fry plan a July 4 reunion at the Municipal Clubhouse at 1 p m. They will tour in the afternoon and dine that evening. Fry, now Abi lene Christian College Band director, led the group 1949–1953 and each drum major for those years heads reunion outreach. With Memorial Day on May 30, Brady papers The Herald and Standard announce a holiday closure next Wednesday. The Herald moves to press Monday afternoon, requiring copy a day early. The Standard will press Thursday, with ads due by 10 am Thursday and news by noon.
Frank Harkey 67 of Placid died Monday in San Saba Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born March 12 1895 in San Saba County he lived there until moving to Placid six years ago. He was a retired farmer. He married Hulda Vogel August 21 1915 in San Saba. Funeral 2 PM Wednesday at Howell Doran Funeral Chapel San Saba with burial in China Creek Cemetery. Survivors include his wife three daughters three brothers and a sister.
Police were alerted Thursday afternoon to a kidnapping in Ballinger involving a man aged 32 to 35 who abducted a 9 year old girl wearing a Brownie uniform. Roadblocks were set up in the Ballinger area as officers pursued a cream and brown 1951 Ford or a black and yellow 1950 Pontiac.
