County Agent Norman Drake warns pecan trees in McCulloch County face the pecan nut casebearer, the main pest. He says spray timing is crucial as eggs hatch in four to five days and a second generation appears in about 45 days, with shells hardening later. Recommended insecticides include 50 percent DDT, 25 percent Malathion, or 40 percent Toxaphene with proper label rates.

Rodeo Sets Early Start for County FFA Event at Jubilee Arena
The County FFA Rodeo moves to 7 30 p m for two nights at Jubilee Arena with schoolboy and girl entrants. Six bleachers will be set, seating 600, and infield parking will be available. The Brady Bulldogs travel to Austin Friday for the state meet. Qualified events include the mile relay and sprint relay squads, Mooring in the 220, Torres in the mile, and Reynolds in the high hurdles. In San Antonio’s invitational, Brady scored 17 points with a fifth in the 440 relay, third in the mile relay, and sixth in the 220. Fort Stockton is favored for the Class AA title.
