City to Put Meters On Own Electricity

The City Council voted to install meters on the city's own electrical use for street lights water pumping and park and City Hall lighting. Electrical engineer Jack Covington from Abilene surveyed the system and predicted improvements this summer after radiator upgrade and generator rewiring at the power plant. He noted most issues are in secondary circuits and that metering will improve records and costs. Corrections will occur during winter to avoid large service disruptions.

Exams Set for Job At Brady Post Office

The U S Civil Service Commission announced exams for substitute clerk carrier at Brady Post Office. Pay is $1.82 per hour. Applications and details available at the Brady post office or from the Regional Director in Dallas Texas.

Bloodmobile Collects 67 Pints in Brady Blood Drive

The Red Cross Bloodmobile drew 67 pints Wednesday in Brady with one donor, Miss Julia Willey, reaching a second gallon. Four men joined the One Gallon Club, and IMCO provided transport for 28 employees to donate. The next visit is planned for Sept 4. local organizations aided the drive.

Brady Junior High to Present Band Sweetheart Sunday

The Brady Junior High Lion Band will seat its new sweetheart at a Sunday concert in the Brady High auditorium starting at 4 p.m. Director Joe McDonough previews a varied program including Latin numbers popular pieces overtures and vocal solos with several band numbers sung by the group. Tickets cost 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students.

Brady High to Hold Junior Golf Meet at Country Club

Brady High Principal C A Ethridge plans a Junior Golf Tournament this Saturday at the Country Club after a two week rain delay. About 30 boys from Abilene Tallinger Lampasas Seguin San Marcos Junction and Menard will compete. Brady’s team includes Gerald Lemons Ed Carruthers Butch Newlin Fred Lawrence with Bob and Bill Archer as singles players.

Brady Merchant Joe Myers Dies at 64

Joe Myers a Brady merchant for many years died at 10 15 p m Wednesday in Medical and Surgical Hospital at age 64 He earlier ran a Brady grocery with his brother Bill then the dry goods business and later Myers Cafe on the square Survivors include two sons Hymie and Sidney both partners in Rosenberg Myers Co Brady Funeral services were held in Dallas and burial was in Shearith Israel Cemetery Dallas

Racers Set To Return At Jubilee Auto Races

The Jubilee Auto Races, postponed by rain for two weeks, plan a Sunday return with a possible stunt ramp roll-over. If weather cooperates, racing starts at 3 p.m. Admission is 75 cents for adults, children under 12 free with a parent.

Pastor Hedemann to Lead New Calena Park Church

The Rev. Lester Hedemann, current Mt. Calvary pastor in Brady, will become pastor of Peace Lutheran Church in Galena Park near Houston. He plans to move in early June with his wife and three children Kathleen 12 Phillip 18 and Mark 4. He has been active in civic work including the Ministerial Alliance Red Cross Lions Club and Easter services in Mercury and Brady.

Rain Keeps Pouring Over McCuilloch County This Year

Thunderstorms dumped 1.05 inches on Brady by 7 a.m. as McCuilloch County logged 13.87 inches for the year. April's 6.08 inches made it the wettest in 14 years and May’s rainfall so far suggests a new modern record. Thursday’s general rain reports show widespread totals.

Boys Inspect B 36 on Fort Worth Visit

Eighty-one boys and men from McCulloch County 4-H and FFA wrapped a Fort Worth trip. They toured Carswell Air Force Base, climbed into a B-36, and watched takeoffs while visiting the GM Arlington plant, stockyards, Swift & Co., Forest Park zoo, and Aledo Feed Lots. No incidents reported.
