Placid Farmer Wins Regional Conservation Award
The San Saba Brady Soil Conservation District and Charles A Johnson of Placid were named regional winners in the Save the Soil and Save Texas contest. Johnson was named district’s outstanding conservation farmer. The San Saba Brady district earned the top regional honor, with a $300 prize to be awarded in Uvalde May 25. Johnson’s farm features tall twin silos and a rotation and deferment system plus brush control and soil conservation measures that sustain livestock and crop yields.

Ex City Marshal and Justice of the Peace Grover Chambles Dies in San Marcos
Funeral services were held in San Marcos on Thursday for Grover Chambles 73 former city marshal and justice of the peace in Brady. He died April 24 at his San Marcos home where he had lived since leaving Brady two and a half years ago. He helped organize the McCulloch County Electric Co op and served on its first board. He supported the Girl Scout movement and funded their Little House. Survivors include his wife Maye Hinton two brothers and three sisters. Burial was at Kyle cemetery following a Presbyterian service.
