SCS Awards Banquet Set At San Saba

Soil and water conservation award winners from southwest Texas will receive honors at 7 p.m. Saturday May 9 in San Saba at the Junior High School. Kenneth Kuykendall chairs the event with the San Saba Chamber of Commerce sponsor. Walter Humphrey of Fort Worth Press will interview winners and present awards. Paul Walser of the Soil Conservation Service will attend. R W Jordan of Voca Receives a local leadership award. Tickets available at Brady Chamber office.

Roping Scheduled For Local Amateurs

The Heart of Texas Riders plan an open steer roping on Saturday May 23 at 2 p m at Jubilee Arena. An amateurs limited roping for Mc Culloch County ropers is set for Sunday May 24 at 2 p m no entries from professionals. Penny Pennington of Menard and Bing Crosby of New Mexico won the two steer average and the open jackpot in last Saturday's event with twenty teams participating.

Brady HPC Student Wins $25 Award

Dorman W. Ridewies, a Brady student at Howard Payne College, earned the $25 first prize in HPC s Democracy in Action contest for a book review. The award was part of 14 creative entries in the competition.

Brady FFA Rodeo Set to Open Friday at Jubilee Arena

Brady FFA inv itational Rodeo begins Friday at 7 30 p m at Jubilee Arena with contestants from 13 schools. Tickets cost 1 for adults and 50 cents for students. Six Brady girls compete for Queen of the Rodeo while Connie Wells from last year rides. A 12 member rodeo committee runs the show and events include bull riding tie down roping goat hair pulling wild cow saddling pole bending barrel racing and the queen's contest.

Melvin FFA Honors 3 Men at Barbecue

Three Melvin men received the Honorary Chapter Farmer degree as Melvin FFA members hosted a parents and son barbecue. Honorees were John Bratton Melvin School Board president Avert Carlson board secretary and George Dewey Jenkins vice president. About 100 served at the Melvin gym with a program in the high school auditorium.

Townsend Wins Re Election With 9473 Votes in District

Unofficial returns from seven counties in the 65th District show State Rep. Terry Townsend of Brady winning reelection with 9,473 votes. Mills 1,309 and 608, McCulloch 1,725 and 639, San Saba 1,464 and 808 totals 9,478 for Townsend and 4,892 for his opponent Tom Henry of Burnet.

Murray Jordan and family visit Austin for Texas entry

Master’s Murray Jordan took his wife and son to Austin on Wednesday. Mrs. Jordan will enter the University of Texas and aims to complete her thesis toward a Master’s degree in science this summer. Mr. Jordan returned Wednesday night.

Contracts Awarded for Brady Water System Upgrades

Brady City Council awarded four contracts for water system improvements including mains replacement by Bland Construction of Austin for 240955.85 dollars, a 500000 gallon tank by The Bering Company of Dallas for 54810, a high service pump station by B-W Construction of Austin for 20880, and pumping unit gear by FMC Corporation Peerless Pump of Dallas for 4563. The city won a federal grant up to 173000 dollars and will fund its share with bonds. Construction must start by May 17 to stay eligible.

Library Trust Fund Established by Board

Library officials announce a McCulloch County Library Trust Fund to receive memorial contributions for library development. Funds will target expensive books not justified in the regular budget, continuing a tradition of memorial volumes supported by local residents.

Rochelle Girl Nominated for English Award

Rochelle High School student Carol Haywood has been nominated for the National Council of Teachers of English Achievement Awards Program. Nominees are judged by local and state committees for excellence in English, with winners announced in December 1964 and forwarded to colleges for scholarship consideration.

Lynn Kyzar daughter of Mr and Mrs Tommy Kyzar of Abilene visited her Brady grandparents Mr and Mrs Houston Kyzar from Friday to Sunday. She traveled with Kenneth Rode and attended with him as his mother Mrs Wallace Rode hosted. A J Ricks and Ace Ricks went to Dallas and Priddy for the furniture market last Thursday.

ACC Choir To Sing Here At Brady High School

The Choralaires a six member group from Abilene Christian College will perform at Brady High School at 1 30 p m next Tuesday. Public invited Director Rollie Blondeau leads a tour through Del Rio Uvalde San Antonio and Brady. Choir members will lunch Tuesday with Fourth and Bridge Street Church of Christ as guests. The Brady girl Rose Ann Reynolds is a choir member.

Transfer Deadline Remains June 1 for Students

County Supt. J E Herrington reminds parents that transfers to other districts require proper approval. The June 1 deadline applies for students moving to schools outside their home district.

Brady Couple's Son to Receive Seminary Degree

Jerry Self son of Mr and Mrs C Fuller Self 1511 South High Brady will receive the Bachelor of Divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth May 15. The seminary will graduate 213 students in spring exercises with about 500 graduates annually. President Robert E Naylor will present degrees and diplomas and speaker S Coutts Redford will address the event.

The Brady Band Boosters Club at Brady High School elected officers for 1964 65. Three Brady students to receive degrees at A and M University

Three Brady residents are candidates for degrees at Texas A&M University College Station. They will be conferred on May 23 after an address by Gov. John B. Connally.
