Architects Map Plans for Brady HA Units

The Brady Housing Authority signed a contract with Fitch Holcomb and Associates of Houston to design 90 low cost housing units for elderly and low income families. Projects await Public Housing Administration site approval with a June 1 target for program hearings and final plans.

Bulldogs Aim For Second Straight State AA Golf Title

Brady Bulldogs travel to Austin for the State AA golf meet seeking a repeat championship. Senior Skip Prieas Butch Thornton Karlton Steffens and Kurt Otte finish their Brady careers while freshman Dayton Archer contributes as district medalist. Brady won the regional in Lubbock by 19 strokes and will face Jacksboro, returning state medalist Rick Massengale.

Brady High 440 Relay Team and Lewis to Meet in Austin

The Brady High School 440 yard relay quartet Danny Schill Bobby Wade Puddin Jones and Davey Cornelius along with pole vaulter Marion Dean Lewis will represent Brady at the Meet in Austin this weekend. The relay ran 43.4 in a UT track workout with coach K Y Owens pleased with the time. Jones replaces Larry McCarroll who is sidelined by thigh muscle injuries and will join as alternate. Lewis won regional pole vault at 12 feet with wind noted as a factor. Owens expects a better regional mark in Lubbock conditions. The team races at 1 p m Saturday.

ASC Program Proves Popular In McCulloch County

The Agricultural Conservation Service program remains the oldest and popular in McCulloch County. Since 1925 farmers and ranchers invested about 150000 dollars yearly, totaling around 4 million shared by program and landowners. In 1964 federal cost share reached 77447 dollars with year long payments. Over five years 590 of 900 farms carried out practices. Drought and economic strain reduced 1964 activity but annual conservation continued. The county is over 97 percent privately owned with 557000 acres rangeland and 157000 acres cropland, forming the region’s main economic resource for about 10000 residents.

The water department will flush the main Saturday due to ongoing rust in the city's water supply. Residents should expect rusty water Saturday and Sunday and check the water before washing clothes to avoid staining.

Brady School Choral Concert Scheduled in High School

The Brady High and Junior High choral groups will perform in the high school auditorium on Tuesday May 11 at 7 p m Tickets cost 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for students Proceeds benefit the choral department directed by Bruce Ashcraft.

World War I Vets Meet Here May 16

World War I veterans of the 71st district of Texas will convene in Brady on Sunday, May 16, with Thewracks 1466 as host organization. Members from a wide area are expected to attend, along with a joint meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary. The affair will be at the National Guard Armory, registrations at 8 a.m., lunch at noon, program to follow.

Pinky Burns Named Lake Officer And Caretaker

City Council hired E. N. Pinky Burns as caretaker road maintenance and law officer at Brady Lake. Burns, ex Rochelle resident, is a heavy equipment operator who will clean and shape roads and enforce laws in the lake area. He formerly served as Precinct 4 commissioner and later as a law enforcement officer at Faden. The council also approved a 763418 budget for next year and allocated 800 for summer recreation with schools. They accepted Arlyn Brown’s resignation from the police force effective May 6 and set the municipal pool opening for the week of May 24 with current staff and rates.

June Benefield Hinckley receives Houston’s outstanding journalism award at the Ladies of the Press Breakfast in the Sheraton Lincoln Hotel.
