Brady Band Boosters elect Boswell new president

Elbert Boswell was elected president of the Brady Band Boosters for the coming year at the meeting in the new band hall Monday night. Other officers include M. G. Breckenridge first vice president Wayne Rawlings second vice president Mrs Leo Oates secretary and Ralph Micklethwait treasurer. The retiring president Rev William B Douglas reviewed the year and noted the group spent over 2700 on band programs. The Brady High Band plans a Six Flags trip on May 7 and a Spring Concert on May 13.

Bulldog Band Heads to Six Flags Contest Friday

The Brady Bulldog Marching Band of 80 members leaves Friday at 5 a.m. for the Six Flags High School Marching Contest. They perform at 11:30 a.m. against Quanah Devine Cisco and Arkansas Louisiana Oklahoma schools, then stay at Six Flags until 10 p.m. They overnight at the Lennox Hotel in Prairie and depart Brady around noon Saturday. Band director Jamey Mallow is reachable at the Lennox or Six Flags for emergencies.

Deadline Set For School Transfers In 1965 66 Term

June 1 is the final date for parents to transfer children from one school district to another for the 1965 1966 term. Parents wishing to enroll in a district outside their residence must file an transfer application with the County Superintendent in the courthouse.

Fireside Nursing Home Welcomes Visits as It Grows

Fireside Nursing Home on U S Highway 87 South marks its third month of operation with 24 residents from Brady and nearby counties. The facility employs 14 full time staff, two part time workers, and has additional relief help for illness or emergencies. A spokesman invites churches clubs and civic organizations to visit anytime with no set visiting hours.

Hospital appoints Melvin woman as Eden office manager

Mrs. W. D. Flemming of Melvin has been named office manager at Concho County Hospital in Eden. She succeeds Mrs. James T. Robbins who tendered her resignation effective May 1.

FFA Invitational Rodeo Heads to Jubilee Arena This Weekend

The annual FFA Invitational Rodeo runs Friday and Saturday at Jubilee arena. All-area FFA chapters compete for team banners with eight Brady contestants for Rodeo Queen, and events include bull riding and wild cow saddling. Tickets are 1 dollar for adults and 50 cents for students.

Houn' Dawgs Barbecue Set For Monday Night

The Ol Houn' Dawgs Club will hold its annual Spring Barbecue Monday night at Richards Park. Brady High School athletes will attend as guests, with Dr. J. R. Wood as president and Gordon Wood, Brownwood High Lions coach, delivering the principal address. Awards for the outstanding back and lineman of the past season will be presented.

WW I Vets Plan District Meeting in Brady

The 21st District convention of Veterans of World War I will meet in Brady on Sunday May 1 with Brady Barracks No 1466 as host. Registration starts at the National Guard Armory, lunch at noon, and an afternoon program. The Ladies Auxiliary led by Mrs Walter Hurd and Mrs Dee Hampton will also meet at the same time.

Brady Board Outlines Accelerated School Desegregation Plan

Brady Independent School District trustees outlined a phased desegregation plan under the Civil Rights Act to fully desegregate Brady Public Schools by the 1967-68 school year. The plan begins in 1965 with first grade integration and expands through 1967, with freedom of choice remaining for some grades and a faculty integration committee to study East Ward staff placement.

Lohn Valley Group Re-Elects All Officers

Fifty seven members attended the Lohn Valley Protective Association annual meeting at Cornils ranch. Officers Paul Lohn president David Bratton vice president and Bill Moseley secretary treasurer were unanimously re-elected. Wesley Bratton was elected to the board to replace the late W. W. Walker. Three members died last year and three new members Clifton Montgomery Singleton Fowler and Tom Bradley Jr joined. An honorary member was named Glenn Wright and H N Moore was named honorary as well. Jon Ed Weaver became president of the Brady Junior Chamber of Commerce at a Friday night installation banquet at the Plateau Restaurant. State Jaycee program chairman Bill Hart installed officers in a candle light ceremony. Lynn Dale Kelso received the outstanding Jaycee of the year award for extensive time and travel. Eldred Pruitt was master of ceremonies. Fuller Self was guest speaker stressing personal development. Brownwood Jail Escapees Sought After Brown County Break

McCulloch County authorities hunt two escaped prisoners from Brownwood after a Sunday morning jail break. Eugene Wilson 34 and Jerry Gage 28 reportedly fled in a stolen car abandoned near Brady, with Wilson linked to prior manslaughter offenses and parole status. Local sheriff warns they are dangerous as a statewide alert spreads through San Angelo radio.
