FHA Okays Lake Brady Loan for Flood Protection

The Farmers Home Administration approved a 1.485 million dollar loan to the City of Brady to fund Brady Lake construction. Officials expect a May 11 closing with Mayor Priesmeyer and plan bids around July 15, with Soil Conservation Service and Freese & Nichols handling engineering services. The loan, announced by Lyndon Johnson, Blakley, and Fisher, supports flood protection under Public Law 566, with SCS adding 850 thousand dollars for the project.

Brady Bulldog Band Earns Second in Concert at Abilene

The Brady Bulldog Band received a second division in concert playing and a third division in sight reading at the regional Interscholastic League contest in Abilene held at McMurry College. Judge comments noted tougher ratings this year while Winters led AA with first division in all events.

Pony League Meeting Planned for Monday

Adults interested in Pony League baseball will meet at 7 30 p m Monday May 8 at the Fire Hall to organize for this summer season. Organization of the Little League is nearly complete and boys team assignments will be announced next week.

The Farmers and Ranchers Co op will hold its 16th annual stockholders meeting Saturday night at Richards Park. Three directors will be elected and a barbecue supper will be served to stock holders and their families. Registration begins at 7 p.m. If rain, the supper moves to the show barn. City council approves South Blackburn angle parking plan

The council passed an ordinance authorizing 33 degree angle parking on South Blackburn Street between Commerce and Second to create more traffic space. They also annexed Gardner Broad and Elmer McLean property on West Sixth Street near Laurel Drive and set city pool admission and season tickets with 5 cents to 50 cents pricing. They authorized 1000 for summer recreation and agreed 600 toward portable bleachers for Little League and Pony League at Richards Park, with fundraising planned to cover about 500 of a 1100 cost.

Brady High Claims Western Day Preparations For Friday

Beards are part of Western Day activities at Brady High sponsored by the Student Council. The day features a tobacco-spitting contest at 8:15 a.m. and an assembly at 10:15 a.m. if weather allows. Staff and students vie for costumes, with penalties for noncompliance and a jail scene led by student escorts.

Brady High names Whiteley first assistant football coach

Brady School Board promotes Ed Whiteley to first assistant football coach and hires Fletcher Fields as junior varsity coach. Whiteley remains Brady High basketball coach through 1961-62. Fields, an all state fullback and 1957 Brady High graduate, will teach physical education and coach JV. Fields works with Catfish Glenn at Cooper High School this spring.

New Voca Road Nears Opening In McCulloch County

Gun Under Pillow Fires Wounding Woman at Home

Mrs. Billy Sellman of 401 South Pine was accidentally shot when a gun under her pillow discharged around 2 30 a m Thursday. She remained conscious and was reported doing very well at Brady Hospital. The bullet glanced off the left side of her head and lodged behind the ear without entering the brain. Doctors planned to leave the bullet unless it causes trouble.

Punky the Brady Bulldogs mascot dies at age eight

Punky, a registered English bulldog and Brady High School mascot, died Thursday morning at eight years old. The Ol' Houn' Dawgs had provided meals and Punky had resided with Mr and Mrs E M Hahn for years. Punky was donated to Brady High in 1956 by Arthur Morse of Comanche.
