Telegraph Office May Close But Service Won’t End

Western Union seeks to close its Brady office and run an agency via the Brady Hotel. A teleprinter will serve the desk with longer hours, from 7 30 am to 7 pm Monday to Saturday and 9 am to 1 pm Sunday. Mrs. Reynolds confirms the change but will move to Abilene. FCC action pending.

Saturday Last Day For Auto Licenses Seen Long Lines

Saturday is the final day to purchase new auto license plates. Tax Collector John Guice expects a long line out the courthouse door with about 600 passenger car tags remaining to sell, not counting trucks. The courthouse tax office will stay open Saturday afternoon and at noon. bring your title and last year's registration receipt.

Fishing Contest Opens At Broad's Monday

Howard Broad of Broad Mercantile Company announces a local fishing contest at his store running from Monday April 2 to May 15 with total prizes of 53 dollars. First prize is a Shakespeare Wanderer for the largest bass, second a Shakespeare Marhoff reel for the largest catfish, third a bamboo fly rod for the largest crappie, and fourth a tackle box for the largest perch. Contestants simply weigh their catch at the store.

HPC Student Accepts Call to Central Church

The Rev. Fred Carter, 25, has accepted the pastorate at Central Baptist Church 601 South China St succeeding Rev. Sam Thom who resigned last December to pastor a church in Howel Ky. Carter, a Howard Payne College senior, preached his first sermon last Sunday and now, with wife and 2 year old Tommy, moved into the parsonage. He grew up in Waxahachie and finished high school in Sunset Dallas, son of H A Carter and Mrs. Carter. Mrs Carter, Bobbie Baucom daughter of Coleman residents, is a Coleman High School graduate. Carter expects to earn his degree in July.

Easter Services at First Christian Church Climax Series

Easter Sunday will climax a series of services conducted by the First Christian Church. The morning sermon is The Truth About the Resurrection by Rev CC Don Manning with Dr B A Hallam singing and the choir performing The Easter Sunrise Song. The evening sermon is Our Last Great Hope followed by a baptism. Visitation and evangelistic services have continued throughout the past week.

Singers Reunion Set for Brady April 21 22

The Heart O Texas Singers Reunion will be at Brady High School April 21 and 22 with quartets from across Texas. A Saturday concert costs 50 cents. Sunday features a barbecued chicken dinner to aid expenses, with out of town guests offered cafe meals or baskets.

Brady's Dollar Day Turns One Next Week

Brady merchants celebrate the one year anniversary of Dollar Day with a spring kickoff event on Wednesday April 4. The promotion has run monthly except for last year's Jubilee week, drawing thrifty shoppers and new season interest. Advertisers must submit copy by March 31 at 4 p.m. for the edition mailing April 2.

Rochelle and Melvin FHA girls elected to office

Tommye Sue Price of Rochelle and Eilene Brown of Melvin were elected area historian and area parliamentarian at a Texas Association of Future Homemakers Area VII meeting in Austin. The Rochelle delegation includes several other officers and delegates, with plans to attend the national convention in Chicago.

Brady FFA team places seventh in Area VII contest

Brady High School's FFA judging team finished seventh among top teams in the Area VII contest held in San Antonio. Ed Spiller led Brady with 276 points of 350, while Melvin Faver scored 26 percent and John Frank Weir posted 288 points.

Brady High School honored the football team pep squad and B team with letter jackets during Wednesday morning assembly. Football captains Lesley Fisher and Winston Soesher presented the eco champions trophy to Brady Bulldogs, accepted by Student Council president Margene Cornelius. Principal speaker W. L. Light Turnout Expected in Brady City Vote

Brady residents head to the polls Tuesday with a light turnout forecast. All candidates run unopposed on the ballot, including Mayor hopeful A. Harkrider, Aldermen Harl Fowler and Dr. Harry Prieß, and City Secretary Mrs. W. P. Jones. The city recorder post will be decided by council appointment at the meeting next Tuesday night.

Ritchie Undecided About Appealing 3 Year Sentence

Sam McCollumbl, defense attorney, said Thursday that John W Ritchie has not decided yet whether to appeal the three year sentence handed down in Uoth District Court Tuesday. Ritchie, 26, of Waller Texas, was convicted on an indictment of murder with motor vehicle while intoxicated in the December highway death of Mrs. Fred Appleton of Camp San Saba. Jury verdict reached at 8 p.m. after two day trial. Ritchie is held in Mee Culloch County jail.

Auction Boosts Funds For FFA and 4-H Trip

A Tuesday livestock auction for a commercial feeding program raised about £900 with sheep goats and calves donated by McCulloch County farmers. Local businessmen bought the stock and J D Hampton and David Bratton coordinated donor lists. Proceeds fund prizes and a two day San Antonio trip for 76 FFA and 4 H youths.
