Two Brady Teachers Retire After Long Careers

Brady High School will see two veteran educators retire at year end. Mrs. E. J. Powell has 44 years in Brady Schools, teaching at the elementary and high school levels and coaching in many UIL events. Alonzo Reed Jr. leaves after 43 years, including 17 at Dunbar and six at Brady High, with coaching stints in basketball and track. Both plan travel and relaxation, with Powell noting the high value of a democratic, education minded community.

Mild Interest In School and City Elections

Absentee voting shows mild interest in city council and school trustee races. City Secretary Groves cites 26 city ballots cast with a March 28 deadline, while tax assessor Lewis reports 29 school trustee votes, also due March 28. Voters traveling April 1 should vote early.

Brady Council Purchases Fire Truck and More

The Brady City Council vote funds a new fire truck and separate equipment totaling 22 703 including a jack. Joe Myrick becomes election judge replacing J J Seals as he is out of town. The panel also renews marina park lease with Dewey W Young and buys a greens mower for the golf course. Vernie Pike to work full time at the cemetery and water well No 4 pumping equipment repairs approved at 8502.

Love Kimbrough Former Judge and Sheriff Dies

Love Kimbrough former Mc Culloch County Judge and Sheriff died at 4 55 a m Thursday in Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Funeral services are pending at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Further information was not available at press time.

Seminar Attended by Mrs Underwood and Mrs Hagler

Mrs Lou Underwood and Mrs Jack Hagler attended an educational seminar in San Angelo on Sunday. The event was conducted by Joe Oliveri named hairdresser of the year. Styles for 1972 featured the curling iron and lamp cut.

Four-County Meeting Delves Into Underground Water District

A Brady McCulloch Mason and Concho County delegation met in Austin with Texas Water Rights Commission officials to discuss forming an underground water district for the Hickory Land formation. They learned legal barriers, timing, and that any district would require state study and alignment across the four counties.

Bloodmobile comes to Brady for blood drive at church

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be in Brady on March 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Fourth and Bridge Street Church of Christ. W. L. McDowell praises McCulloch County and another county for meeting the year’s quota and urges 18-year-olds to donate as age requirement lowered to 18.

License Plate Deadline Near McCulloch County Office

The McCulloch County Tax Assessor-Collector’s office will close at noon on Saturday March 25 and April 1. It will also stay open during the noon hour the week before April 1 for license plate purchases. Tax Collector Vernon Waddill Jr. reports 1,462 passenger car plates sold as of Monday, about half of the typical 3,000.

The Brady Bulldog Band directed by James Mallow travels to Ballinger for UIL concert playing and sight reading. They aim for a seventh straight Sweepstakes Award after already earning a Division I marching rating and an AI in concert and sight reading would secure the top honor.

Dr Kerr to Keynote Brady Chamber Banquet

Dr Walter Kerr, director of the National Youth Foundation at Tyler, will be the keynote speaker at the Brady Chamber of Commerce annual meeting and banquet at 7 30 p m April 13 in the Brady Schools Cafeteria. Tickets are limited and may be bought from Chamber directors or the C C office. the Distinguished Service Award will be presented at the event.
