Local Officials Pick Site for Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital
City officials and hospital directors selected a 20 acre tract on Farm-to-Market Road 2028 east of Post Oak Creek as the site for the new Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital. The 50 bed facility will be funded by government funds and local gifts with Harold Warren in charge of the campaign.

A one day workshop on public relations programs for libraries is set for Monday at Richards Memorial Library with the Texas State Library Field Services Division. Vanita Lee will lead a discussion on improving patron communication. The event runs from 9 a m and welcomes librarians board members and others in community library development. Also included is birth news of Nicole Jo Spassky born March 9 to Mr and Mrs Nick Spassky of Austin with Leota Carlson of Brady as mother and Tore Carlson of Austin as maternal grandfather.

Brady Bull dog Band earns first division at UIL contests
Forty three of forty seven Brady Bulldog Band members competed in the University Interscholastic League solo and ensemble contests at Howard Payne College Brownwood and won first place medals. Band director James Mallow praised the students for their outside work and voluntary effort. Soloists earning Division I included Holloway Huffman Huffman McBroom McCulloh Neal Robinett Scott Thompson Thompson and Straley. First division ensembles included woodwind and flute trios and a brass choir with multiple members.

County Judge K O Ellington announces G E Rensink and Mrs Joel Shipp will run the McCulloch County Food Commodities Program and collect applications for low income families. Applications are March 23 24 25 at the Assembly of God Church and Public Welfare Office. Distribution planned for late April.

Absentee Voting Opens for City and ISD Elections
Absentee voting in the City and Brady Independent School District elections began Monday and runs until March 31. Voters out of town on April 4 may cast ballots at City Hall. The school trustee election absentee site is John Lewis’s office on the second floor of City Hall.

Bids for the lease of Brady Lake park facilities were opened at the Tuesday meeting with W. B. Lawrence and Richard Dale Young high bidders pending qualifications. An ordinance banning fishing contests was authorized and will take effect once drawn. playground equipment valued at $2,000 was ordered for Richards Park, to be shared by the City and County. Stanburn Park will get two picnic tables a climbing gym some trees and a tennis court. The 1970 71 budget hearing is set for April 23. The city holds an option on Huffman land next to Curtis Field to extend the airport runway. A resolution praised Ben Dillon and John Black for widening the corner at South Bridge and Commerce Streets.
