Letters flood the Brady Chamber of Commerce box from students retirees and service personnel. They seek information and pictures about Brady and Llano Basin while sharing personal notes and memories including a German prisoner of war tale.
General Power announced Convair B-58 Hustler missions will fly over Brady as part of SAC training. The flights will occur in a 390 to 350 mile corridor at 35 000 to 50 000 feet, with sonic booms possible but not dangerous. Ground impact is said to be minimal and safety remains a priority.
A Texas Employment Commission survey, made at the request of the Chamber of Commerce, labels Brady a surplus labor area with skilled workers available. CC manager Roger Wheeler says the findings aid the D-C Industrial Committee in courting prospects. Dress Revue Set for June 17 at Brady High School with the theme Portrait of Fashion.
Brady officials and Pioneer Natural Gas Company reached a deal after nearly a year of talks. The ordinance sets gas rate increases averaging between 0 and 10 percent, far below the company's requested 19.1 percent. Mayor R. M. Priesmeyer praised the cooperation and full disclosure during negotiations.
Dud ley Q Braly of Brady was awarded the Doctor of Dental Surgery degree at Baylor University College of Dentistry graduation in Dallas. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Houston Braly and plans to reside in Beeville after August 1.
Mc Culloch County reports 75 percent of the small grain harvest done. A M Jones of Farmers Ranchers Co op notes oats average 30 to 40 bushels per acre and wheat over 20, with 1958's bumper crop remembered. H L Brady yields 61 bushels on 30 acres Bear Creek while remaining 330 acres average 35 to 40 bushels.
Harold Franke beef cattle herdsman at Texas A&M College will judge at Brady July Jubilee stock show. Sam McAnally announced the date after a College Station visit. Franke, recommended by W. T. Berry, directed A&M farms and aided the livestock judging team, which won the Chicago International title last fall. Jubilee entries expected to grow, with barn expansion planned at Richards Park. Events run July 1 to 4 with a parade, barbecue, and sales scheduled.
More than 250 children are registered for free summer swimming classes at the new city pool at the Country Club. The largest group is first through third graders with 121 pupils meeting MWF 10 30 to 11 30 a m. Four instructors teach the program under Pool Manager Forest Hanson along with Laurice Hunter Jimmy Bratton and Anne Young. About 11 women also take lessons at 8 30 to 9 30 a m on Tue and Thu, with expectations of 15 to 20 participants. A 90 student class covers fourth through eighth graders meeting MWF 9 30 to 10 30 a m, while seventh through eighth graders attend the same period on other days as swimmers.
Sheriff Luke Vogel issued his annual call for cowboys and cowgirls to ride in the July Jubilee parade. Riders should contact Vogel or appear Saturday morning July 2. Ribbons will be awarded for the most typical cowboy and best dressed cowgirl in junior and senior divisions.
City Council called for bids on a new patrol car to replace an older unit. Bids due by June 15 with hopes to have the car ready for the July Jubilee. Also approved a $504,671 budget for city operations and water works. Mayor Priesmeyer swore in C. B. Groves as city secretary. Approval for gas masks and foam firefighting chemicals for the Fire Department and related expenses.
