Brady city and Brady School District launch a new season with swimming lessons for school children at the city pool taught by Forest Hanson and Miss Laurice Hunter. Evening schedules include Little League, Pony League, Story Hour, Bulldog Stadium activities, tennis, and softball under district supervision.
BON WILSON argues the Post Office is a public service funded by taxes, not a business. He defends cheap postal rates for newspapers and books as benefits to the people, not subsidies to publishers, and opposes Summerfield’s push to run the Post Office like a business.
Starting Thursday June 9 the Brady Country Club hosts a weekly Ladies Fun Day with co chairs Mrs George Carruthers and Mrs David Quinn. Fifteen ladies are signed up with more urged to join for activities including swimming bridge and golf. Luncheon at 1 pm each Thursday funded by Mrs Norman S Lawler and Mrs Travis Calliham. reservations due by noon Tuesday.
Red and white Heart s Texas necklaces advertise the July Jubilee. They are available at Brady businesses and from Korky Steffens and Terry Townsend. Each necklace costs 50 cents and promoters urge everyone to buy and wear one.
Jubilee event chairmen will meet at 7 30 p m Monday at the Chamber of Commerce office to finalize plans for this year’s big show. They expect a bigger and better Jubilee than in recent years.

The Democratic runoff features a light ballot in McCulloch County with three statewide and local races. Voters will decide tax assessor-collector and a district judge for the 35th District, plus Precinct 1 county commissioner. The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals race pits Lloyd W. Davidson against W. T. McDonald. Breedlove and Dibrell lead in the race to succeed A. O. Newman.
Brady building activity climbs with permits totaling 60 575 for April and May. Projects include Norwood Advertising Co erecting eight sign boards at South Bridge Street for 1200, Brady ISD adding two dressing rooms at high school for 19500, and several homeowners adding rooms carports or moving houses on West Fourth North Grant North Walnut and other streets. The Texas Highway Department also plans a warehouse on North Bridge Street for 11000.
A classified ad placed by J. Carmichael to sell two circulating fans and a washed air cooler ran once on Tuesday May 31 after he requested a stop. He credited the ad with completing the sale in a single insertion. The Standard-Herald touts its low cost and quick results.
The Commercial National Bank installs a small elevator on the building’s second floor near the stairs for tenants and customers who have difficulty climbing the stairs. It is placed just east of the stairs to aid access.
An editor's note from J. D. Hamptons in Iran reports health good and notes Brady and McCulloch county papers arrive about a month late. He describes Caspian Sea area weather, blooming fruit trees, plans to teach in Tehran, and a three week workshop for teachers before returning to instruct for six weeks in their state.
The Mc Culloch County Red Cross Chapter holds its annual meeting at 8 p m on Monday June 13 in the Brady Presbyterian Church basement. Those who donated at least $1 to the Red Cross or the Community Chest are eligible to attend. New officers for the chapter will be announced.
McCulloch County election judges must report polls close totals to The Brady Standard promptly. Totals will be broadcast by KNEL and sent to the Texas Election Bureau. A call is required from every ballot box to LY 7 2236.
The Vacation Bible School of the First Baptist Church holds its commencement at 7 45 p m Sunday during the evening worship. Children from nursery to junior departments march in with flags and the Bible and perform the opening service. Each department reviews its work, certificates are awarded, and department hand work is shown in the Fellowship Hall. Parents and friends are invited. Attendance opened at 150 Monday.
