Teenagers will present candy to donors on Saturday to raise funds for the March of Dimes. Money supports health career scholarships and aid for polio patients, benefiting birth defect and arthritis victims. Campaign chairman Mrs Roy Filison urges loose change to help handicapped children.
Brady Bulldogs defeat Mason 69 47 to stay 2 1 in District 1A AA. Leading scorers include Elzia Williams 16 and Bubba Harris 13 for Brady while Mason’s Mark Durst led with 14. Girls game saw Mary Zillax 23 for Brady and Joan O Donnell 23 for Mason.
The Heart of Texas Coin Club invites collectors to attend its meeting on Tuesday night at 7330 o'clock at the McCulloch Electric Cooperative. Members and others interested in coin collecting are urged to participate.
Former University of Texas ex students met at the Chamber of Commerce to reorganize the Mc Culloch County Ex-Students Association. Temporary officers were named and plans made for Scott Appleton Day on Feb. 6 with a March 2 banquet. Four officers and 14 ex students attended along with Texas Aggie Korky Steffens.
Earl Land a 56 year old Brady man died at 12 02 a m Wednesday in Brady Hospital after months of illness He was born February 22 1908 in Richland Springs and had lived in Brady since 1950 He was a heavy equipment operator He and the former Bernice Wright married September 23 1942 Their home was 305 West Fifth Street Calvin White Church of Christ minister conducted the funeral at 320 p m Thursday at Wilkerson Chapel with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery Survivors include his wife Ben Wayne Land of Abilene a sister Mrs Winnie Force Brady and two brothers Herold and Ross Land both of Richland Springs
Mrs. Delle Landis, 77, died Sunday Jan 19 after long illness following a hip fracture in Houston. Funeral held at First Baptist Church Cleveland with burial beside husband. Survived by four daughters, one son, seven grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Mr and Mrs C A Watson attended the funeral and returned to Brady.
Pear Valley rancher David G. Bishop Jr., 39, announced Thursday as a candidate for County Commissioner of Precinct 3. He will oppose Oscar Betsill of Doole, who previously announced for re election.
Mr and Mrs Carroll Owen of Tyler announce the birth of a son on Thursday January 28. They also have a daughter Gwen age 4. The mother is formerly Nancy Whitehead and maternal grandparents are Mr and Mrs G W Young of Brady.
McCulloch County grand jury indicts two men for December burglary at the Milton Gainer Store in Rochelle. Charles Slatter and John Riggs plead guilty and receive seven and four year terms. A third man Woodrow Murrell and a forged check case involving Robert Smith are also noted with sentences and arrests.
Sports fans are urged to park in the school lot near Brady Hill School during game nights. Officers warn against blocking driveways or parking near fire plugs and note tickets were issued for violations. No parking zones will be enforced only during school hours on Wall Street and Tenth Street.
Chester Enedahl, a Melvin stock farmer, reports stray dogs entered his pasture Wednesday night and killed twenty of his largest lambs. Several more head were injured and he fears additional losses.
A daughter named K Lynn was born Wednesday January 22 at Brownwood Memorial Hospital. Proud parents are Forest Hanson and his wife and the baby is welcomed by grandparents Douglas Leach and Hazel Hanson with great grandparents Wesley Leach B T Stewart and Jake Ellison among others.
Mr and Mrs Nolan Underwood announce the birth of their second son Chris Falon on January 13 at Brady Hospital. Mother and baby were released from the hospital last Saturday. The Underwoods’ older son Lee, of Sandy, is 19 months old.
Prady High School Bulldogs players received solid black jackets with gold-orange letters in a Thursday morning assembly. Coaches K. Y. Owens and Ed Whiteley distributed the gifts, with co captain Robert Floyd presenting tokens to the coaches. Floyd praised the staff and noted past disagreements but support for Owens. Greg Chase gave a word football trophy to Mark Day, student council president, in recognition of Brady's district championship tie.
Richard Castanuela of Melvin an air policeman at the Portland Air Force Base completed 320 hours of training at the Portland Police Academy. The program provided basic instruction in police procedure for area law enforcement agencies. Castanuela and fellow cadets were pictured in the Portland Reporter. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Jesus Castanuela of Melvin and attended school there.
Hurley Thomas Brown, 52, of Brady Texas died at the veterans hospital in Kerrville at 8 p m Tuesday Born in Cameron Sept 1 1911 he lived in Brady since 1925 Funeral was conducted by Henry McBroom at Wilkerson Chapel and burial followed in Brady Cemetery Survivors include three brothers Wayne Clovis New Mexico Raymond Brady Theodore Brown California and five sisters Othelia Connell Forol Swanson Waco Estell Copeland Floydada Winnie Harris Austin and Thelma Lee Creech San Angelo
The City Council opened bids for pumping equipment to activate the new No.5 well on the south side. City engineers Freese Nichols Endress of Fort Worth will evaluate bids before a contract is issued. The meeting also granted a 30 day extension for sewer out fall line construction and discussed a No Parking Zone near Brady Hospital to aid ambulance access along Grove Street.
