A ringtail cat entered Brady National Bank Thursday morning causing damage to wires and boxes. Bank staff and customers helped coax the animal from a filing cabinet and calm it after a brief chase.
Officers were installed Sunday at the morning service of the Brady church. Elders named include Jakes Striegier Sitea Deatons Marion Ernat Tetena and James Crigwell, with trustees also installed.
At annual stockholders meetings Commercial National Bank Brady National Bank and Brady Savings and Loan Association renamed officers and directors. The First National Bank Melvin also re elected its directors and officers. The bank paid a 10 percent dividend and a one month salary Christmas bonus to employees.
A 1-person jury panel is summoned for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday to serve on the McCulloch County grand jury after Wednesday’s report was dismissed due to Judge Joe Yibrell’s travel weather. The called jurors include David Bratton Rochelle J W Kyzar Emmett Moore Herman Attaway A R Crumley R B Smith A J Probet Jr John G Jones A E Jordan George H Reed Mrs A T Barton Mrs Carlas Miller Earl Finlay Homer Haley Roger George and Frank Lohn all of Brady.
The Pontotec Community Club hosts a barbecue on January 25 at 7 PM to raise funds for the March of Dimes. Adults pay 1 dollar, children 50 cents, with all proceeds benefiting the charity.
Brady Selective Service Board No 98 calls 15 men for physical exams and one for induction on February 6. February quota will lean toward volunteers under 26 and non volunteers aged 19 to 25. Most scheduled to be 22, per Col. Morris S. Schwartz.
An important meeting of all McCulloch County ex-students of the University of Texas will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at the Chamber of Commerce office. C. D. Beck Reed and Terry Townsend said the gathering ties to the Scott Appleton Day banquet Feb 6 and a Brady visit by Texas Coach Darrell Royal. All University ex-students are urged to attend.
CG. W. Roberta, 74, a retired San Angelo printer, died in a Taylor hospital Tuesday. He once worked in Brady for the old Heart of Texas News and had stints in Hamilton Copperas Cove and other towns.
The City Council publicly thanks State Rep. Terry Townsend for his service to the city. The Texas House member, in his third term, is praised as an able voice for rural and small municipalities and thanked for keeping council informed on legislation. He chairs the Highways and Roads Committee and serves on Agriculture and Livestock.
Snow blanketed most of McCulloch County on Wednesday night with variable depth. Official readings ranged from .33 inch in Brady to lighter cover in Melvin and Lohn areas, with moisture estimates from .1 to .33 inch. Morning temperatures dipped to 20 degrees, then rose to the 40s as sun returned.
State Representative Terry Townsend of Brady has filed with Mc Culloch County Democratic Chairman Paul Lehn for re election to the 65th District. The district includes Burnet Gillespie Lampasas Llano McCulloch Mills and San Saba Counties. Townsend's formal announcement will appear later in this newspaper.
Oscar Betsill joined the slate this week seeking reelection as county commissioner of Precinct 3. Other incumbents pursuing another term include Sheriff Luke Vogel Precinct 1 Commissioner Paul Johnson and Tax Collector John Guice. Murray Jordan also filed for County Attorney. Terry Townsend seeks reelection representing the 65th District while Henry of Barnet opposes him. O. Fisher also filed for reelection as Congressman of the 21st District.
N M Barnett of Melvin polled Hereford breeder takes show cattle to Lamesa for a Saturday show and sale. He offers two 2 year old bulls, with five more 2 year olds from Valdiia Farms at Sabi and two additional bulls from Barnett in the same sale. Brown wooed show and sale.
Tickets for the Scott Appleton Day Banquet went on sale Thursday at City Drug and Rudder Drug. They’ll also be sold at the Chamber of Commerce office Brady High School and by members of the Rotary and Lions Clubs and the OV Hound Dawes. The banquet, at 7 30 p m Thursday Feb 6, honors Brady’s All American football player with University of Texas coach Darrell Royal as principal speaker.
