Brady Population Grows with Utility Meter Counts

City population estimates rise to 6415 as of January 20 1976 based on Brady Water and Light meter data. April 1970 had 2485 meters, April 1975 2699, with 2869 by January 1976, indicating growth of 858 since 1970. Water meters show a similar increase. The note previews a Bicentennial Centennial issue in May.

Five Santa Fe Cars Derail Near Brady

Five Santa Fe railroad cars derailed about three miles east of Brady near East Sweden on Tuesday afternoon. The 47 car train, heading to Temple, carried fine sand. seven rear cars did not overturn and no injuries were reported. Crews worked to repair damaged ties and rails as of Wednesday morning. An adult welding class at Brady High School begins Feb 24, limited to 14 students, with two weekly sessions for three weeks, cost six dollars for supplies.

Wilma Baze Brady Native Dies At Odessa

Wilma Baze 63 librarian at Lamar Elementary School in Odessa died after a two month illness. Funeral Friday at 10 a.m. at 6th and Jackson Church of Christ Odessa with burial in Live Oak Cemetery Brady. She was born September 26 1912 in Brady and moved to Odessa in 1943. She taught in Dodge Brady schools and belonged to Church of Christ Music Club Knife and Fork Club and NEA TSTA TCPA and T&LA. Survivors include her brother W L Baze of McGregor and several nieces and nephews. Brady Schools announce Texas Public Schools Week March 1-5 with open visits and lunches for the public teachers and officials plan displays and programs.

Huntington And Fields Granted Two Year Extensions

Paul Huntington of South Ward Elementary and Willie Ray Fields of China Elementary received two year contract extensions from Brady Independent School District trustees. Their names were accidentally omitted from the prior contract list at the last board meeting.

Mrs King 82 dies. lifelong Fredonia resident

Evelyn King 82 of Fredonia died Monday at Lee's Nursing Home Mason at 4:30 p.m. Services were held Wednesday at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel with burial in Wagram Cemetery. Born July 20, 1893 in Tiptonville Tennessee she married John L. King in 1915. She was a homemaker and Methodist. Survived by son John L. King Jr. of Brady daughter Mrs R C Ammons of Stephenville five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Council Okays Cable TV Hike in Short Meeting

City Council in regular session grants Television Enterprises a new franchise and a rate increase. Residential rates rise from 6.50 to 7.50 while commercial rates increase 15 percent. Alonzo Roberts may connect to city water lines outside the limits, paying for 1500 feet of extension. Four police resignations accepted including Patrolman Bill Barr and his wife Karen. Norman Taylor of Eden is to be hired after an interview.

Muzzle Loaders Gather For Winter Championship

The Texas Muzzle Loading Rifle Association aims to attract about 125 shooters and families to Brady for a midwinter weekend of antique gun competitions. The event runs Friday through Sunday with 38 matches starting 8 a.m. Friday and ending near noon Sunday, plus a new concrete slab for volleyball and social activities at Brady Lake.

Hadley Home Destroyed By Fire

The Tom Hadley residence on the Coleman Highway near Brady was destroyed by an early morning blaze Tuesday. Firefighters from Brady responded at 4:20 a.m. but water supply ran out and the house was lost. cause remains undetermined. The Brady Band Boosters plan a 7:30 p.m. Monday meeting at Brady High School Band Hall.

Mrs Mitchell Rites Held for San Angelo Native

Mrs Carmen Jackie Mitchell 75 of San Angelo died Tuesday at her home. Services were held Thursday at Wilkerson Memorial Chapel conducted by Henry McBroom. Burial followed at Rest Haven Cemetery. Born October 27, 1900 in Pontotoc she lived much of her life in Brady. She married W. D. Mitchell May 29, 1941. Survivors include daughter Cecil Knox of San Angelo two sisters Myr Kimbrough of California Lewis Airheart and Johnny Jackson of Brady a brother Jim Meadows of Brady and two grandchildren five great grandchildren.
