The Brady Standard plans a mid May debut for a Bicentennial Centennial issue with space selling underway led by Red Simpson and staff. Stories include INDIANS SPANIARDS JIM BOWIE and 1856 life of ADVENTURE, plus local history items and 1907 Brady square photo.
Brady Independent School District trustees awarded a $15,656 contract to Fruhauf Uniform Co. for 120 band uniforms at $130.47 each. They extended three personnel contracts for two years with pay increases, including Administrative Assistant Boyd Hunt by $620 and High School Principal Al Chance and Junior High Principal Grayson Wetzel by $500 each. Resignations were accepted from Coaches Jerry McLeod and Richard Davis.

Brownwood district representatives from the Economic Development Administration met with the McCulloch County Commissioners Court to discuss the program. Harry Miller and Stuart Coleman described eight counties forming the district under the EDA and the Public Works and Economic Development Act of 1965 aimed at restoring economic health and attracting new industry.
The Rochelle School Board in regular session approved a two year contract for Principal Ronnie Nowlin. Supt Kennth Mitch ell and other district leaders also renewed several contracts and set a March meeting for remaining teacher agreements. The board called a board election for April 3 with terms expiring for Bobbye Hurd and Ray Stites.
City politics heat up as three candidates file for City Council. Mayor Norman Lawler seeks a third term, W A Dodds runs for Place 1, and E A Conner enters for Place 2 against incumbent Billy Jack Neal who won’t seek re election. Deadline March 3.
Charles Brewster, former Brady High basketball coach and mathematics teacher, signed a two year contract to continue as superintendent of the Lohn Schools after taking the post last year. He previously led New Home as head coach and principal for four years and earned degrees from Howard Payne College and Sam Houston State University.
Brady Energy Board and City Council approve a gas rate increase for industrial use. Municipal power plant moves from 85c to $1 per mef with March 18 reading and April 1 billing. other industries rise from 85c to $1.32 per mef. One bid on Hallum Draw sewer project presented but no action pending HUD legality check. Council also weighs extra insurance and Television Enterprises franchise renewal and rate adjustment.
McCulloch County landowners are urged to pay dues for predatory animal control as treasury runs low. President Parker Pumphrey notes $10 dues or 2 cents per acre for larger landowners, with J. D. Morris the trapper at risk without funds. Morris can be reached at 597-7921.
