The Brady High Bulldog Band leaves Friday at 9 a.m. for the Del Rio Band Festival. One bus and many private cars will carry bandsmen. Events include marching contest Friday night, concert and sight-reading Saturday morning, parade Saturday afternoon, all-star band concert Saturday night, with trophies awarded then. Bandsmen return Sunday after Sunday school.
M Bretherton of Dallas died January 6 in a Dallas hospital from a heart attack. He lived in the A W Moseley home during Curtis Field days and served as supply man at Curtis Field. He made many friends in Brady and is survived only by his wife.
Gatesville coach Lonnie Renfro and J. D. Warren laud Brady for its lively gym atmosphere and sportsmanship during their Brady trip. They note Brady players cheering in unison and the cordial treatment from Brady fans.
Brady High School upset Lampasas 50 38 to seize the District 17 AA lead and threaten their first district basketball title in 20 years. If Brady and Lampasas win their remaining games they would share the championship and a playoff will decide advancement to regionals. The game drew a packed Brady gym as fans rallied behind coach Ed Whiteley’s squad.
Ralph Duncan of the West Texas Chamber of Commerce will address Brady and McCulloch County citizens at a 7 30 p m meeting in Brady High auditorium. Duncan, formerly manager at Haskell WTCC, says the program is worthwhile and vital for all attendees.
It was brother versus brother as Brady's Robert Ricks faced his sibling James Ricks of Lampasas. Both starters and jump center for their teams, Robert is a Brady High sophomore while James is a Lampasas High senior living with his grandmother in Lampasas.
Brady hosts a boxing show at the National Guard Armory with 20 to 50 bouts. Local stars Tate Anderson and Manuel Sanchez seek defense of regional titles as teams from San Angelo Brownwood Coleman De Leon Melvin and Brady compete. Proceeds cover gear meals and event costs with Rudder Drug supplying gauze and tape.
Brady Presbyterian Church invites the public to a World Day of Prayer service Friday at 3 p m. Observances span 144 countries from the Longa Islands to St. Lawrence Island Alaska with Queen Salote guiding prayers. Brady church members have joined this movement for many years.
The Kimble Menard County singing convention meets at the First Baptist Church in London on Sunday February 15 at 2 p m. The public is invited to attend.
The Hill Country Firemen's Association voted in Junction to hold the next convention in Brady on October 10. Brady efforts included a strong showing in races led by L. J. Armstrong, with Brady placing second in a three-man race and tying for third in the six-man pumper event alongside Winters.
The Brady Volunteer Fire Department announced local and district winners of its annual poster contest. Robert McBee won first in intermediate, Cleve McDonough second. Cheryl Penn led primary, Nancy Pearson second in high school, with Nancy Bean third. Local prizes were 15, 10, and 5 dollars.
John Placker 67 former Brady resident died Saturday Feb 7 in a Corpus Christi hospital after surgery He was born in DeWitt County June 13 1892 Survivors include wife Elizabeth five sons William O Placker J B Placker Jr Ray Placker Joe Placker and Sam Placker all of Corpus Christi one daughter Mrs H S Wright of Brady eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren
The Christian Men's Fellowship postpones the Brady High banquet planned for Friday February 20 due to the boys basketball team remaining in district championship contention. Wayne Rawlings says a new date will be announced next week.
The Rev. E. E. Tankersley will minister at the Gospel Tabernacle Monday February 16 through Friday February 20. A nationally known evangelist, he will deliver inspiring messages. Services start nightly at 7 30 oclock Monday through Friday.
Mrs George Joy underwent major surgery at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo on Monday. Her condition is reported as critical. Friends may send cards and letters in care of Shannon Hospital.
