Joseph Allen Conley Sr., 68, a Brady retired machinist and welder, died Tuesday at his home. He was active as Uncle Joe on KNEL radio for 16 years and left a long career in aircraft work, later living in Brady and resting at Rest Haven Cemetery. Survived by wife, three daughters, a son, a half brother, and nine grandchildren. Funeral held at Wilkerson Chapel with burial in Rest Haven.

Sheffield Loses Case in Hillsboro
B R Sheffield of Brady was found guilty by a Hillsboro district court jury after about two hours of deliberation. He received a six year prison term for passing a forged document in 1954 to the State Veterans Land Board linked to a Kinney County ranch sale. Defense lawyer John Cofer of Austin said an appeal will follow if a new trial motion is overruled.

City Considers New Fire Alarm Via Telephones
Fire Chief Tommy Clay outlined a telephone based alarm system similar to Wimberley. The plan would alert volunteer firefighters by dialing a code to ring all homes on the line. Council took the idea under consideration and set a meeting with Southwestern States Telephone for Feb 27 to discuss a rate increase.

Leakey Welcomes New Baptist Pastor Rev Dickson
The Rev Gene Dickson pastor of Central Baptist Church has accepted a call to lead the Baptist Church at Leakey. He will preach his last sermon here Sunday and move with his wife to Leakey next week. A Howard Payne College graduate, he studied at Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth last year. He has led the Central church since October 1957.

Concho Board Approves Revisions to Brady Creek Plan

Local Boys Calf Scramble at San Antonio Rodeo
Johnny Quinn and Buddy Corder of Brady and Jack Weaver of Melvin will scramble calves at the San Antonio rodeo Monday February 13 at 8 pm. Twenty boys in the event will pursue ten calves, using halters and 10 foot ropes to claim a calf and drag it to the finish. Prizes, in livestock purchase certificates, range from 80 dollars to 15 dollars for eighth to tenth places. Contestants are 4 H and FFA members aged 12 to 18. prizes fund livestock for 4 H FFA projects.
