The Brady high school basketball program may finish the season with a deficit between 1700 and 2000 dollars. Diphtheria Cases Reported in Brady Not an Epidemic

Two adult diphtheria cases in Brady are described as routine by the treating physician. He notes most cases occur in adults, due to vaccination of children, and says there is no epidemic. One patient has been discharged and the other will be discharged Friday. Treatment with serum is effective when caught early.

Lynx Kill Report From Voca Ranch Sparks Local Distaste

In Voca a lynx was found in a pasture with a fawn carcass. Marvin and Billy Purns trapped the animal using bait then finished it with a .22 rifle after discovering it alive. The lynx weighed about 380 pounds and had large claws and teeth.

Rush for Poll Taxes Causes Hectic McCulloch County Rush

Only 1 567 persons paid their poll taxes in McCulloch County this year. Tuesday was the last day and many waited until Monday and Tuesday to pay. The total trails the 2 459 recorded in the 1960 presidential year.

Three Plea Guilty in McCulloch County Court

Three men appeared in 35th District Court before Judge Joe Dibrell and pleaded guilty after McCulloch County grand jury indictments last week. Felix Zapata of Brady received a five year probated sentence for unlawful possession of narcotics. Jose Leija of San Antonio was sentenced to three years in the state penitentiary for auto theft from Mrs. Connie Colvin of Brady on December 31. Johnny Allen of Prady, about 26, drew two years in the penitentiary for passing a worthless check to George Veazey of Placid on October 31.

Tyler Physician Dr. Thomas Shirley Dies in Brady Hospital

Dr. Thomas Clayton Shirley, 58, longtime Tyler physician, died Monday at Brady Hospital at 7:45 p m from a heart ailment after two weeks as a patient. The body was returned to Tyler for burial. He was an uncle of Dr. Albert McCulloh of Brady.

Honest and Good Woman Dies at 102 in Brady

Mrs. R. A. Rutherford Sr of McCulloch County died at 9:45 am in Lottie Wilson Nursing Home at age 102. Born March 27, 1858 near Smithville, she recalled Civil War days and Reconstruction. Funeral conducted by Rev. Harry Bamberger at Wilkerson Chapel. burial in Brady Cemetery. Survivors include three daughters Mrs. Waddy Thompson, Mrs. J. M. Wilson, Mrs. Frank Ogden and son J. Y. Rutherford.
