Texas special session ends with loan bill dead and tourism funds cut
The Texas Legislature wrapped up a hurried special session with the loan regulation bill killed by two votes in the Senate after House passage. The coastal appropriation package to promote tourism and repair the San Jacinto Monument failed in the House. Governor Price Daniel called the session productive, noting progress on escheat reporting and farm to market road policy, and he hinted at a possible four term bid. Candidates for governor quickly filed as lawmakers headed home for reelection.

Changes in draft rules clarify unsatisfactory reservists
Col Morris S Schwartz state Selective Service director notes new provision under Public Law 87 378 of 1961. Draft boards now cite written unsatisfactory certification by the reservist’s own branch before induction. Schwartz emphasizes the armed forces reserve determines the unsatisfactory finding.
