Oldest Native Man Ben Smith to Celebrate 91st Birthday
Ben Smith the oldest native man in McCulloch County will observe his 91st birthday Sunday at Brady Hills Nursing Center where he has resided a year. Hosts his children and families from 2 to 4 p m. and invites friends and relatives. He was born February 8 1880 at Dodge Water Hole and is a former rancher and fence contractor with eight siblings. He has four children three sons and a daughter, six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He gardens daily at the rest home and at his own house despite failing sight, joking that he wins bingo by cheating.

Brownwood District Seal Coat Contracts Awarded
The Texas Highway Commission awarded seal coat work for 287.4 miles in the Brownwood district during the January Austin meeting. District Engineer E. M. Pritchard will supervise three McCulloch County projects FM 2028 from US 87 north of Melvin to Brady, 21.1 miles. FM 2822 from FM 1028 to US 190, 6.9 miles. and FM 2996 from FM 1121 to US 377, 4.1 miles.
