A short Christmas tale recalls a man born in an obscure village who lived modestly, worked as a carpenter, preached briefly, never wrote a book or held office, traveled little, faced opposition, and was crucified with two thieves. His only credential was himself. (Continued on Page 7)
Brady selects Gary Rogers as police chief. he arrives from Lubbock with his wife Jennifer Juliff and their two year old son Jay. The family stays with D C and Mrs. Roper before moving into 705 South Elm. Rogers is a Texas Tech graduate and former Lubbock deputy sheriff.
City Council approved an unemployment compensation program for municipal workers required by a new state law effective January 1. The plan costs the city no more than 6000 dollars annually, with 1 percent of each employee’s first 6000 dollars. about 100 staff would be covered. Also announced were the hiring of William B.E. Neal as city sanitation officer and paving completion on Willow and Plum Streets under a federal grant. Figures from nearby towns are listed for November and year totals.
The state highway department invites bids to seal and sealcoate 113 miles of roads across McCulloch San Saba Brown and Mills counties. Bids will be opened in Austin on January 18.
Firefighters debated lime green versus traditional red for the City County's new fire vehicle. Volunteers ultimately voted to keep red, aligning with the city's existing fleet and improving nighttime visibility.
Mrs. G. C. Stanley aged 84 of Brady dies at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital at 3 50 p m Tuesday after a long illness. Services were conducted at Wilkerson Funeral Home Southside with Rev Ray Ash. Burial followed in Live Oak Cemetery. Born July 9 1893 in Rome Georgia she married Grover C. Stanley March 2 1920 in Brownwood. Survivors include a son G C Pete Stanley of Houston two daughters Mrs Jerry Bratton of Brady and Mrs Ellen Jean King of Houston three brothers John R Dorsett Malvern Ark Alton C Dor sett Durango Colo and Ralph C Dorsett Lubbock two sisters Mrs Sarah Tyner and Mrs Helen Burks Stephenville 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr and Mrs Jack Cauthen of Melvin tour Montana on vacation and discover Brady a small town of about 200 with a post office grain elevator and the home of the Brady Bulldogs. They meet Gene Newman who runs a large Montana ranch and operates 180 sections.
