The Brady Bulldogs finished the regular season undefeated but suffered a tragic blow when star quarterback Ira Routt was injured in a traffic accident the day before the bi district playoff with Rockdale. The Tigers defeated Brady 21 to 7 ending their dream season.
A new system for renewal of auto license plates is being set up and registration may take longer this year. Texas motorists were warned this week.
A new Texas law requires renewal dates to be spread over 12 months rather than all expiring on April 1. Renewal notices have begun mailing with the prorated fee and months shown, and the license number will determine future registration month.
Four CB antennas were taken from vehicles parked at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday night during a two hour window from 7 p.m. to 8 45 p.m. Victims Robin Hernandez Fred Ruiz Robert Ruiz and Joe Torres reported the thefts to Brady Police who investigated with no results. The item theft occurred while owners visited the funeral chapel.
Clyde S. Neve 80 of Corpus Christi died at his home on Friday December 23 after a long illness. Born in Willow City and reared in Melvin, he worked on the Charlie White ranch and ran a Melvin meat market before moving to Corpus Christi where he lived 48 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church and Masonic Lodge No. 1122 in Melvin. Survivors include his wife Beulah a son Billy Clyde Neve of Mena Arkansas two brothers T. C. Neve Texas City and Jack Neve Oklahoma a sister Verda Wyres Brady two grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral services were held in Corpus Christi Monday December 26 with entombment in Sunset Memorial Park San Antonio on Tuesday.
Senator John Tower will visit Brady on Thursday January 5 arriving by plane and meeting supporters at 3 30 p m at the McCulloch Electric Coop building. Brady is among 22 West and Central Texas communities Tower will tour next week listening to citizens. He will travel from Eldorado to Eden for a 5 p m meeting after Brady.
Central Texas Electronics, Inc. bought the TV translator channels 2 4 and 5 from Heart of Texas TV. Conrad Appleton, president, said the purchase includes the tower and a planned community repeater system for McCulloch County. The new owners will keep the translator operating if user support remains.
Hank Wilson’s home at 407 Boston won first place in the Heart of Texas CB Club Christmas lighting contest. Fern Hayes’s home in Dodge Heights at Brady Lake took second, and Donnie Wilson at 406 Boston, across from the winner, earned third. Prizes were $20, $10, and $5 respectively.
