SMU Football Persists as Revenue Despite Decline
The article argues SMU will not drop football despite three losing seasons and slim gate receipts. It cites about 140–150 athletic scholarships with most in football, $400k+ gate income from 285k admissions, plus $60k regional and $280k national TV payments. It notes overall athletic income exceeds $500k, but costs are around $600k in the Southwest Conference, and a winning team is needed to sustain support and attract students.
