Brady High School Prepares for New School Year

Brady High School registered 258 students this week a rise from 234 last year and short of the 266 registered before opening last year Principal C A Ethridge noted more registrations are expected by next Tuesday Seven new students joined the rolling total This week 43 seniors 64 juniors 63 sophomores and 88 freshmen are counted at the high school Junior High Dunbar and Brady elementary campuses set first day registrations for Tuesday at 8 30 am Buses return by 11 30 am The cafeteria opens Wednesday Ink distribution starts with a 10 cent ink fund per student Junior High adds a 50 cent library fee and bans ink bottles from lockers Beginning students must be six on or before Sept 1 and bring a birth certificate and smallpox vaccination North Ward will serve elementary students north of the Santa Fe main line South Ward serves those south Brady teachers attend workshops Friday with a faculty meeting set for Sept 1

Rochelle Opens School Tuesday with Assembly

Rochelle begins the new term next Tuesday at 9 a.m. with an assembly in the gym. Superintendent C. W. Thompson says lunch will be served and dismissal at 2 p.m. The teaching staff includes Posey Collins, Eleanor Riley, G. S. Hubbard, T. E. Bratton, John Adkins, Vera Boykin, K. Y. Owens, Leslie Fambrough, Miers Johnson, Lockett Bryson, Ruth Watson, Jerrell Rice, H. V. Sawyer, and C. W. Thompson.

Lohn and Melvin Schools Open Monday

Lohn and Melvin are starting the new school term Monday morning September 3. Faculties are complete at both schools. Melvin holds an opening exercise at 9 a.m. and all patrons and interested residents are invited. Registration will begin after the program.

First Bales of Cotton Ginned In McCulloch County

The Herald notes the season’s first cotton bales from Kimble and McCulloch counties. An irrigated 15 acre Kimble farm expects 25 to 30 bales. a 27 acre McCulloch farm aims for about 20 bales, water access varying across acres. Thunderclouds Bring Heavy Rain Across McCulloch County

Thunderstorms crossed McCulloch County this week delivering up to 5.5 inches in places while others saw lighter totals. Mercury measured 2.7 inches on Tuesday with hail and rapid runoff. Brady areas received additional showers Wednesday and Thursday. temperatures plummeted from 102 to around 70. Brady Receives Traffic Safety Award at Lions Club Luncheon

The Department of Safety awarded Brady a 1955 traffic safety honor at the Lions Club luncheon in the First Methodist Church. Police Chief Golden Jones accepted for Brady, with Joe A. Perry of San Angelo presenting. Mayor DP. A. Harkrider praised the Lions and urged another award in 1956. Perry cited 1955 Texas traffic deaths and factors, noting 2,107 fatal crashes and 2,547 lives lost, with speed and drinking major contributors.

Refund on filing fees saves McCulloch County candidates

The McCulloch County Democratic Executive Committee issued a 20 percent refund on filing fees after elections costs were lower than expected. The committee charged candidates $3,905 but used only $2,887 for the first primary and runoff, making each vote in July and August cost about 50 cents.

Calf Creek Homecoming Set for Sunday

Free Movie Day for Local Kids at Texas Theatre
