Brady residents face a 103 degree day matching a season high as four million gallons of water are used daily. Brady Water & Light directs alternate day watering for even and odd houses, with pumps running at full capacity to meet demand and water restrictions tightening at cemeteries parks and the Country Club.

Ford Check Received By Melvin Hospital

The McCulloch-Concho Hospital in Melvin received a Ford Foundation grant of 5000 dollars as half of a nationwide philanthropy to aid 3500 private hospitals. N M Barnett called the gift a strong vote of confidence and urged prudent use to benefit local residents. The foundation described the money as seed money to boost community support and hospital services.

McCulloch County ranks 25th nationally in sheep and lambs sold alive for 1954 with 98 563 head valued at 1 200 304 dollars. Val Verde leads Texas in numbers and value, while Dawson County Nebraska is the nation’s top producer. Agriculture census by the Bureau of the Census.

Mrs. Jesse Glenn Dies in Corpus Christi

Mrs. Jesse Y. Glenn age 59 died at 7 15 am Wednesday at her Corpus Christi home. She was born November 14 1896 in Goldthwaite and wife of Jesse Glenn a Brady stock farmer. Survivors include her husband a son in the Philippines three daughters four grandchildren two brothers and two sisters. The body was sent to Brady for 4 pm Friday services at Wilkerson Funeral Home and burial in Brady Cemetery.

Katemcy Homecoming Planned for September 2

The Katemcy Homecoming will be held Sunday, September 9, inviting all residents and former residents. Aubrey Mc Knight serves as president and Mrs. M. A. Jordan as secretary. Organizers plan a large turnout and ask attendees to bring tea, cakes, salads, and other items while they provide meat, bread, pickles, plates, and coffee.

Mrs. Dora Rosenberg 78 Dies. Brady Descendant Memorial

Mrs. Dora Rosenberg, 78, longtime Brady resident, died Tuesday in a San Antonio hospital. Mother of Sol, Eli Rosenberg and Mrs. Moss Rosenthal, she left Brady last year for San Antonio. Surviving: two sons, a daughter, a brother Marcus Mendelsohn of Leeds, six grandchildren, and two sisters. Funeral held Wednesday at Akers Funeral Home San Antonio, burial at Rodfei Sholom Cemetery. Pallbearers named.

50 Farm Bureau Leaders Meet to Discuss Policy

About 50 Farm Bureau leaders from the area gathered Wednesday to learn how to run policy development meetings in their counties. National and state issues slated for Farm Bureau policy were reviewed, with guidance on organizing and obtaining local information. Billy Joe Gist of Abilene presided, joined by Millard Shivers from Waco and district representatives Edward Cumbie and J. D. Jordan. The Brady meeting took place at the McCulloch County Electric Cooperative building.

Brady Hospital Welcomes New Daughter Batista Nell

Jerry Simpson handed out cigars after Mrs Simson presented him a daughter Batista Nell at Brady Hospital Tuesday afternoon. The baby weighed nine pounds three and one half ounces. Grandparents on the mother’s side are Grady and Mrs Moore of Sohn and the paternal grandmother is Mrs Charles Simpson of Wichita Falls, formerly Brady.

Engineers Consider Dam on Colorado River Near Stacy for Irrigation

A Lohn Valley committee met in Austin with U S Bureau of Reclamation engineer Harry Burleigh to study a possible dam on the Colorado River near Stacy. If feasible, the dam would irrigate McCulloch County lands, with a site on Stevens ranch at the county boundaries. Burleigh and a soil expert plan a site visit around Oct 1 to assess viability and funding through irrigation water sales.

Generator outage forces Brady plant shutdown

A malfunctioning stator in the 2,500 kilowatt Elliott generator at Brady Water and Light Works forced the Cooper Bessemer engine to be shut down. The stator has burned out four times in a year, sending the unit to Ridgeway Pennsylvania for rewinding. The plant now runs three other engines and imports power from West Texas Utilities under a mutual aid agreement. The stator is due back August 31.
