Insect Damage Growing Farmers Meet Monday

Dr Freeman Fuller entomologist for the Texas A M Extension Service will speak in Brady Monday on insect control in cotton and maize. McCulloch County farmers are urged to attend the district courtroom meeting starting at 10 a m with a morning session and an afternoon field trip to cotton fields for insect counts demonstration. County Agent Jimmy Cusenbary says insects have become an alarming problem in the last two to three weeks.

Camp Offered as Way to Get Workers Back Addresses Brady Camp Need

TEC official from San Angelo urged Brady City Council to host a transient farm worker camp to improve contact with workers, noting past arrests and fines in Brady hurt relations. He suggested water, showers, toilets and highway signs, saying TEC could assist but not fund. Mayor’s aide said a committee would study creating a camp to aid local farmers and boost spending.

Farm Bureau to vote on dues and select queen

The McCulloch County Farm Bureau will meet Saturday at 8 p m in the Brady High School auditorium to vote on raising dues from 7.50 to 10 per member and to select a queen. Six entrants are listed including Sandra Barton and Mary Ann Parks with Thursday 5 p m deadline. Mason county judges will evaluate entrants. the winner proceeds to the Brownwood district contest in September with expenses paid.

Cotton Warehouse Damaged By Blaze

Fire around 11 p m Wednesday damaged the old Ed Jacoby cotton warehouse at 1000 block South Magnolia St. Oats and three bales of cotton stored there smoldered into Thursday. Walls and about half the floor of the wooden structure were charred.

Chest Drive Set Now for October

Directors of the McCulloch County Community Chest set the 1955 campaign tentatively for October and elected officers Wednesday. Dr. James Anderson heads the chest as president, and A. L. Neal of Rochelle is vice president. E. O. Martin was renamed secretary, and Wayne Ferguson was elected treasurer.

Brady merchants report Dollar Day as the year’s best busiest yet with many stores seeing steady business all day. Penney’s Raymond Cates and Perry’s Carl Schoenewolf praised strong turnout and future plans for September events. Ros enberg’s Hymie and Sidney Myers, Piggly Wiggly LaVern Larremore, and Mrs. C. H. Vincent all noted solid sales, while Ramond Wilensky urged merchants to stock better merchandise for bigger crowds.

Brady artist and teacher Mrs. Coleman dies at 81

Mrs Rose Coleman a Brady artist and art teacher died at 7 a m Thursday at Wheeler Rest Home 1403 South College Street. She was 81 born February 1874 and had taught art in Brady for years known for paintings of native Texas flowers. Her collection was donated to Mary Hardin Baylor College now in the college library. She was widow of bootmaker J M Coleman who died about 12 years ago. Funeral held Friday at Wilkerson Funeral Home with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery. Donations to Buckner's Boys Ranch are asked in lieu of flowers.

Rochelle to Placid paving scheduled in Texas project

The Rochelle to Placid road will be paved under a two year farm to market program of the Texas Highway Commission. Work starts after planning and right of way securing with Ben Dillon Brady in charge. The 6.6 mile route from U S 190 near Rochelle to FM 1028 in Placid costs about 95 000.

Brady Couple Welcomes Son At Brady Hospital

Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Ledezma of Brady are the parents of a son born in Brady Hospital Sunday.
