Ex-McCulloch Teacher H. H. Deck Dies at 62
Herbert H. Deck, 62, former McCulloch County school teacher, died Friday in a Littlefield hospital after a several day illness. Born October 18, 1892 in Washington County Virginia, he taught at Salt Gap and Water Valley and once sought the McCulloch County superintendent post. He later led Pep, Texas schools and was serving as superintendent at Pep at death. Funeral held at Pear Valley Methodist Church with burial at Pear Valley Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, a daughter, four brothers, a sister, and a stepmother.

L A Dub Doran 68 died of a heart attack at 3 15 p m Saturday after arrival at Brady Hospital. A San Saba native, he ran a Rochelle grocery for years, later moving to Dallas and then Brady where he resided with his wife at 100 East 12th Street. Survived by wife, three grandchildren, two brothers Tom and Jim, two sisters, and other relatives. Funeral at 10 a m Tuesday at Wilkerson Funeral Home with burial in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Bert Wilder pleaded guilty to swindling with a worth less check in Judge A. O. Newman's 35th District Court. Indicted June 20, Wilder passed a $65.60 check last March to The Toggery, receiving $25 cash and goods valued at $40.60. the check was later made good before trial.

Rev Fowler to Lead Baptist Youth Camp at Lake Brownwood
Rev Fowler will lead the District 16 Baptist Youth Camp at Lake Brownwood August 8 to 13 and serve as camp preacher. The Brady pastor recently received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Howard Payne College for service to youth. Pastors from many towns will bring young people to the Baptist Grounds with more than 275 attendees last year. The camp is open to youths aged 13 and older with afternoon activities such as swimming boating volleyball and ping pong.

City of Brady issued three building permits in July totaling 1875 dollars. W H Stewart received a 300 dollar permit to place a 10 by 14 foot snow cone stand at 501 West Commerce Street. O Murdock got a 1300 dollar permit for a two room addition at 1204 South Hackberry. Santos Barrera was approved for a residence addition at Plum and Fifth Streets costing 275 dollars.
