He also recalls a compact car anecdote and hints at wind energy growth in West Texas.
Otis Tatom of Winters aged 71 died at Merrill Nursing Home in Winters. Service at First Baptist Church Winters with Rev. J. S. Tierce. Graveside in Ross Cemetery Baird. Survived by son Carroll Tatom Brady and three daughters. 12 grandchildren. Remembrance gifts to West Texas Rehabilitation Center.
Brady Kiwanis Club sets its annual pancake supper for Thursday May 5 from 530 to 800 PM on the Brady Schools Cafeteria parking lot. Menu features pancakes ham and coffee milk or juice. Tickets cost 150 and are available from club members or Heart of Texas Pharmacy Gibson Rudder and City Drug. Proceeds support Brady Kiwanis youth services projects.
George Edward Engdahl 81 of East Sweden died at Heart of Texas Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born March 25, 1896 in Georgetown, he lived in McCulloch County since 1925. A WWI veteran and farmer, he received the 1973 Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Service Award and helped place many state historical markers including the Jim Bowie site and a Swedish settlement marker. He was active in local historical groups and veteran organizations. survived by his wife Lillie, two daughters, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Approximately 600 attendees gathered at Richards Park for the Brady Bulldog Band barbecue honoring the band’s year of achievements. Highlights include a Division 1 UIL sweepstakes rating in all six judges, All State Area selections, multiple concert and parade honors, and preparations for a Colorado halftime competition.
The Texas Railroad Commission Oil and Gas Division designates the Gassiot Canyon gas field in McCulloch County District 7-C. Opened March 15 with Lillis and Gassiot wells 2% miles east of Lohn, the field shows a calculated daily gas flow of 1,840,000 cubic feet through perforations at 872 to 886 feet.
The Brady Standard features an i6page tabloid edition filled with reader contributed recipes from McCulloch County. Extra copies are available at The Standard office for 50 cents.
The Heart of Texas Brady Bulldog Band leaves at 2 p.m. by chartered buses for Canon City Colorado to compete in a marching bands festival. They will stay at the Raintree Motel Colorado Springs with 27 adults. They plan side trips and sight seeing and expect results Sunday afternoon with broadcasts to KNEL.
Brady announces the resignation of City Superintendent James C. Feazelle after 19 years. The council is interviewing candidates with meetings planned after Feazelle’s departure and cites energy, inflation, and municipal costs as ongoing concerns for Brady. Feazelle pledges to remain in Brady and support the city’s progress.
