Odell C. Olson a Brady native living in Antlers Oklahoma returns for a visit to see relatives and manage affairs after his mother Mrs C H Vincent's death. He recalls early geology work in Saudia Arabia and the Bedouin films from the 1930s. He remains witty and cherished in the community.
The Brady Police Department reported 682 complaints for March under Chief Chuck Thomas. Officers issued 30 traffic citations, 20 of them hazardous, and investigated ten accidents resulting in two fatalities, eight property damage cases, and two injuries.
Brady police are alert for a 25 to 30 year old man who allegedly stole about $192 from Clevenger's Exxon Station at 17th and South Bridge Streets just before noon Wednesday. Darrell Clevenger reported the thief entered the station, talked with him, then departed after a delay while a friend prepared a bank deposit.
A terse memo notes clocks go back at the end of daylight saving. the line about Clevenger mentions no cash in the sack, implying a curious event or rumor.
Sunday marks the start of Daylight Savings Time with clocks moved forward one hour. A theft case involved missing cash and checks from a sack after a desk rifling. the car used was stolen in Arkansas and a warrant will be issued. Brady events include a 1:30 p.m. Hully Gully at the Municipal Golf Course with a $2 entry due by Saturday.
The Brady City Council granted a $40 month raise for all city employees effective May 1, offset by extending electricity and water surcharges and a 25 percent rise in sanitation and sewer charges. New council members Bill Brown and Larry Shields were sworn in alongside re-elected officials Kadhrann Hallmark, Ed Davenport and W. C. Stewart. Davenport was elected mayor pro tem. The panel reviewed a Hunter Associates contract for third year grant funding and approved a water meter outside the city for W. W. Wilson while considering a Dan project continuation.
County Judge Floyd Marshall and city officials toured Treanor Machinery in Illinois April 13 15 visiting Peoria East Peoria Aurora Mapleton Foundry and Decatur and viewing Caterpillar tractor films. Council discussed grants sewer repairs wind and water damage Brady Lake Marina and curbing Rest Haven Cemetery and approved a city hall service contract and patrol advancement while awaiting COG actions and a bridge project funding decision.
Don Walton, a new Brady resident and former Abilene State School caseworker, joins McCulloch County Human Development Center as caseworker. He is assisted by Judy DeBord and a traveling team including a psychiatrist and psychologist. The center, part of Central Texas Mental Health, is at 104 N College Brady with 8 am to 5 pm hours and 24 hour emergency lines.
