Chuck Wagon Supper Slated for Rochelle May 3

The Rochelle Study Club hosts its fourth annual Chuck Wagon Supper Thursday May 3 at 7 p m at the Richard Moseley ranch in Rochelle. Proceeds fund a west Rochelle community center project with tickets 1 for adults 50 cents for children. In case of rain the meal moves to Rochelle High School gym.

Brady Junior High Band Heads to Kerrville Festival

Joe McDonough's Brady Junior High School Band will attend a festival in Kerrville on Saturday as part of Kerr County centennial celebrations. The group will also march in the Centennial Parade Saturday afternoon in Kerrville.

Lewallen returns home after hospital stay

David Lewallen son of Mr and Mrs Amos Lewallen has come home from Shannon Hospital San Angelo after a two week stay He is reported to be doing well and will resume part time classes next week.

Soil Savers to Receive Regional Conservation Awards

Sixteen regional awards in the Save the Soil and Save Texas contest will be presented at a Brady banquet hosted by the San Seba Brady Soil Conservation District. Entries came from 50 counties and 37 districts with state winners later honored in Fort Worth.

Square Dance Set For High Schoolers

High school students are invited to a square dance at the Country Club this Saturday night from 8 to 11 p m. Hostess Mrs. Nelson Dukes says beginners are welcome and will be taught steps. Admission is 50 cents per person and popcorn will be served.

Fire Leaves Tol Brown Family In Need Of Clothing

A fire devastated a home in Jendale Addition Tuesday leaving the Tol Brown family with dire need for clothing and bedding. Salvation Army county chairman Walter Gray asks for donations at Gray's Fine Foods or the Welfare Office, listing specific clothing sizes for each family member and noting the loss of most belongings except a mattress springs refrigerator stove washing machine and sewing machine.

Rudder Seeks Re-Election as Texas Land Commissioner

Earl Rudder, former Brady mayor, will seek a second term as Texas General Land Office commissioner. He filed in Austin this week with an $875 fee and said refusing to serve would be shirking public duty.appointed by Governor Allan Shivers in January last year.

Brady High School names top seniors in graduation class

Martha Bean leads Brady High School seniors with a 94.15 two year average and is valedictorian for the May 25 graduation. Theresa Denman is salutatorian with 95.09, Corky Cobern tops the boys with 92.82 average. All three balanced academics with extensive student activities.

Land Chieftan Recognized at Brady Fete

Fort Rudder received McCulloch County’s Distinguished Service Award at the Chamber of Commerce banquet in Fellowship Hall First Christian Church. The honor recognizes service to community state nation and world. Rudder, a Brady native and longtime friend of publisher Eh Smith, has held roles from mayor of Brady to Texas land commissioner and served as a WWII Ranger commander.

Parents of Tots Ready for School To Meet Next Week

Two parent meetings for children entering first grade next fall are planned. The first at North Ward School on Wednesday May 2 at 2 30 p m and the second at South Ward on Thursday May 3 at 2 50 p m. Parents should attend the relevant school and may attend either or both. Superintendent Reynolds says the session includes meet the teachers and explanations of the health program birth certificates vaccinations and grading with a question and answer period lasting about an hour.
